Fake Gitzo tripods about?

I recently bidded and won a Gitzo tripod on ebay from a seller who seems to sell alot of them.

Have had some problems with my paypal account and havnt been able to pay.

Thats the item. Its pretty cheap for what it is. Should i be skeptical? Are there fake tripods like this on the market. The seller has only responded to one of my messages and the reply sounded quite Chinglishy (Sorry to be the imperialist).

What would you do?

You really have no option other than to pay if you've won the item, unless you can come up with some evidence that it's not genuine before you receive the item.

If you're concerned about anything on Ebay, my general rule is leave it alone.
 
Buy it, get its authenticity checked and if dodgy raise a paypal dispute

Alternatively give it a miss and take the negative feedback
 
Its certainly less than half the usual price :suspect:
but having said this, the seller does have 350+ 100% FB

I would take a chance and let us know how you get on when it arrives?
 
I dont think sellers can leave negative feedback anyway can they? didnt ebay think that was a good idea a while back?

I agree totally there! a lot of storys about empty boxes being returned instead of the item. And not much the buyers could do. Good old ebay!
 
Pay for it using paypal - you may get a bargain :) - if its not pukka raise a paypal dispute for a refund.
 
I bought some earphones once and worried after I pressed "buy it now" that they were fake. I contacted the seller and said that I was buying it under the assumption that they were genuine, that I would be checking and if they were not I would expect a full refund + postage. He refunded me immediately with no further comment.
 
It looks as though the seller has bought up some bankrupt stock. I don't think there'd be the variety of models if they were fakes.
 
seller seems okay to me, you are fully covered if it turns out to be a fake, you have everything to gain by completing the deal...

sellers cannot give negs anymore but they can and will report you as an unpaid for which you will receive a strike, 2 strikes and you will be put on limited status.

If I remember correctly they are made in the same factory. I think Gitzo moved production to China to save money and set up the line for them orginally. Then Benro appeared!
 
did you get the tripod?

If it is Mifsuds they are breaking several trading laws. Business sellers are required to make themselves known, so buyers can expect full coverage under Distance Selling Regulations (ie 7 day cooling off period)
 
Not recieved yet. I was forced eventually to use a paypal e-cheque. So it should be on its way.
