Fairburn Ings

H Darren, I spent some good years near you when I was in the Army,i was also married in York, however Fairburn is a place I used to visit regular ,more some just up the road at lyn dyke ,hope I have spelt it correct ,plenty of Great crested grebes and little Grebes there and at the reserve their is a spacious car park and if you want to get their early you can park at the side of the road and walk in ,a couple of good hides for garden birds woodpeckers etc,and a dedicated Kingfisher screen ,a good circular walk around the reserve as well,Thier is Brown hares knocking around as well ,a good café as well .Well worth a visit

Their is a wildlife trust just south of York worth a visit in summer ,its a Dragonfly hotspot, its only a small circular walk around but you can spend hours their.

I think its actually Yorkshire wildlife trust,i used to stop on my way to York ,its on 10 mins south of the city heading towards Leeds ,its just off a main road with plenty of parking space and its always been quite when I have been

No I was stationed at Strensal served in Cyprus then Northern Ireland ....Got married ,still have friends that way and visit a lot ,our last long visit was at Merrycourt cottages in Malton back in 2000 ,as said I go that way a lot.

Old Moor RSPB is also worth a visit (near Barnsley)

Great facilities and some nice hides / walks.

I found some of the hides at Fairburn to be a little far from the water for photography. Still enjoyed my day there though.

Staveley YWT is not to far from you either.

Dave.
