Having noticed that quite a few photographers here use the medium of Facebook to publish and popularise there images. It was interesting to listen to a radio interview from one of the chief executives of facebook talking about their new terms and conditions. He stated that anything including video and photographic content posted on Facebook means (basically) forfeiting your ownership of your photos. (or at least your rights).
I wonder how many people know this!
There seems to be a lot of discussion about it recently, see the link below and the para headed Facebook...

Basically posting this to let people know what they are letting themselves in for!
Cheers

You don't forfeit ownership of your photos or your rights at all. You still own the photos you post on facebook, the terms basically just allow facebook to license or sublicense them.
That may be concerning to some in itself; but it's not the same as forfeiting ownership.

Not this old argument, facebook are not interested in being a stock library they need these rights to run the service and advertise it using user content. The paranoia and endless debate of this is so dull.

Bum-covering exercise. FB don't want to be liable if your pic turns up on the side of every bus in Europe. If you don't want this to happen, don't post on FB, or at least limit to friends only.

Personally I don't give a jot, I don't post there, only highlighting it to those to whom it may concern. Especially as there are apparently new terms and conditions.

There are always 'new terms and conditions'. ;)

I have a facebook page but as the images start out at 200kbs and facebook compresses the hell out of them i doubt there going to do a great deal with them. Every competition you ever see has small print saying they can use the image for advertising and such
