<div style="margin:0 auto; width:292px; background:none repeat scroll 0 0 rgba(82,82,82,0.7); padding:10px; -moz-border-radius: 8px; -webkit-border-radius: 8px;">

I wonder bother if I were you, I find it very annoying and wouldn't even venture further onto the website..worse than the new "we use cookies" banners

Well yes a pop up can be, but a button to like is not intrusive. As for the cookies one that a EU law, saying a visitor must know if you are putting something on their computer, but not needed in UK

Actually since it is an EU law, it does apply to the UK ;)

A button would be fine, but the site you linked to has a pop-up...all UK website have to comply with the EU law..some implement it better than others. I'd be wary of anything that appears too intrusive to visitors as you're more likely to lose them than gain a FB like

I totally agree. It is very intrusive and just seems to dominate the page. It is like the site owner really wants you to ignore his website and just go to Facebook instead.

No offence to the site owner, but it is not a nice website overall IMHO.
