I can see the benefits in keeping in touch with friends and family I haven't spoken to for a while. Having said that there's usually a bloody good reason I haven't spoken to them for a while, I don't really want to speak to them. :D

Additionally I don't need or want to know how someone's child, big toe, stale pizza is doing so right now I'm 90/10 in favour of binning.

have to say i was a fan of it but i have become one of those you hate and i am starting to hate, i am getting rid of more friends than i have.. so looks like i will be binning soon..

Don't you just love it when someone sends you a present then pokes you though? Wouldn't you miss it? :D

There are two reasons for Facebook.

Narcisissm and nosiness.

I suffer from both :

Brilliant example, I don't understand what you're speaking about.

TBH, I just know that I've been given presents and poked, but have no idea what it's all about either.... it does sound kinda fun, but nothing tickled, so I'm guessing it's all kiddie rubbish that we shouldn't indulge in....

nice to see what they are doing .... not nice for them to see what you are doing

It's like a bad TV show, if you don't like it "turn it off"

Facebook has its uses, for me it's a massive network opportunity. A large pool of “friends” who are mainly acquaintances really!

It’s just another tool in life for me, having spent many years in the forces, I have friends all over the world & it’s nice to catch up every now & then.

I cant say i'd use it if I didn't have a business to promote, but i've got jobs from both FB and Twitter, so for the small amount of my input, it's the cheapest advertising ever!

I have a dozen people on mine, mostly friends that I don't see very often for reasons of distance. It's fine for sharing occasional bits of trivia. Everyone on it it someone I actually know though, not internet randoms.

I'm not terribly interested in what people are growing on their farm though!

its massively useful for stalking, I've stalked clients and dates alike with a quick shifty and its nice walking into a situation with some knowledge to work from

Yup, me too, a new client to interpret for? Facebook search their name, area, and I know who I'm looking for when I walk into the doctors surgery for the job ;)

I use it for 2 reasons;

1) Keeping in touch with people not nearby - due to he rat community I have friends stretching a fair portion of britain, it's just the easiest way.
2) Apps - Farmville being my current game of choice :D

I have friends i rarely see, its nice to keep in touch, i have a cousin i haven't seen since i was 11, but he's not on to my knowledge also have a cousin in Australia i have never met !
Facebook has really opened up a world of possibilities that couldn't have been foreseen, even after the internet started.
The downside to Facebook is when you hear on the news a spouse has been killled because the other half has changed their status to 'single' when difficulties in the relationship has changed :(

How else are you going to prove you have 112 friends?

I dont use it now. I used to, but in the end it's just time theft.

I would agree with that TBH

promote my site through it so use it mainly for that

Bin it! I had myself deleted from it some time ago when I realised all that happened was people with whom you didn't want to talk or ever hear from again tended to find you. And then you got to hear how dull their lives were. My live is dull enough without being made worse by others!

After seeing it raved about on here I eventually gave in and set up an account in the hope that it would help business - it doesn't.

The ONLY positive thing that has come from my FB account is when I shared a video recently and one of the members from here watched it and homed one of the rescued dogs featured.

I admit have blocked most of my "friends" as I dislike swearing and cannot see the point of reading that they have cut their toenails/are fed up/tired/eating/going out/staying in/hungry/drinking/etc, don't care whether they are playing games/having their horoscope read or whatever, there is more to life than playing on a computer :D

Rant over

Narcisissm and nosiness.

I suffer from both :

I opened a FB account to see someone's wedding photos - wish I'd never bothered! (2nd rate photos of a 3rd rate couple!)

Never had it.

Never wanted it.

Never missed it.

I speak to my friends.

Yup, if I want to communicate with someone, I pick up the phone or the car/bike keys.

How did you manage to get yourself deleted? I've tried to get my account closed but with no success. The eternal e-mails they send me now get channelled straight to Spam (which is a start) but I'd like to be erased from FB completely.

I emailed the customer service people asking for my account and all of my information to be deleted. You may have to badger them but they really have no choice if you make such a request. I did delete mine some time ago though.

I have deletd mine twice - they were pretty quick at doing it too...

I signed up briefly to see what all the fuss was about and decided I could have more fun watching paint dry. :tumbleweed:

My wife uses it to follow what our grown up (supposedly) daughters are doing & to talk crap to her friends.

I joined briefly & tracked down an old flame who was now divorced with 2 kids & living in a different part of the country. For the record I did not contact her & certainly didn't poke her this time around & promptly deleted myself.

I guess it has its uses

Stalking people is great mind.

I have 2 accounts though; one in my real name so like my old school friend can add me, be happy she has contact and leave me alone, and then I have one I actually use in a fake name.

If it doesn't work for you no point using it just because other people do.

For me it's invaluable. I speak to friends from college that are now scattered all over the country. The event facility makes it really easy to organise meeting up with everyone and being able to tag friends in pictures is a great way to reminisce days or nights out. I love it but it's not for everyone. No reason being there just to follow the crowd!

I was contacted by an old flame recently. I was sitting on the sofa, laptop, well, on my lap, opened up this message with my Mrs sitting next to me

I sent a "Do I know you?" message to make out I had no idea who it was !!!

TBH, I find it useful for keeping in touch with friends & family who are not local, and I've actually got back in touch with quite a few old school friends - not bad since I left school in 1978 !!

that really would make my head hurt.

I can see how it might be a useful tool if used in the right manner.

Unfortunately you do seem to spend as much time commenting as you do do hiding/removing the irritating people from your 'friends' list.

At least you know who to avoid if you see them out and about I suppose.

I find it very useful for keeping in touch with friends, and I've also managed to rekindle old friendships that really shouldn't have died. Having said that, there are a lot of people on there that just want to acquire friends as some sort of popularity contest. That's not for me.

I may have managed to sell a canvas to an old school friend tonight though, after he saw my crappy Facebook upload of it. Just waiting for him to contact me after I sent him a price list that I've just pieced together. Four years of Facebook use = £30 profit. Is it really worth it?

I only really use mine to play Mafia Wars or to post up pics of social gatherings that my friends are in. It's also nice to see what people have been up to that you don't see too often. My friends also use the event thing- which is pretty useful to organise a meet up or something.

Just periodically delete all the wayne-kerrs that don't post anything useful.

Anyone doing nothing other than Farmville-ing went earlier this year, as did all the Mafia Wars idiots etc etc etc.

...pretty soon you find out who the real friends are - and they're not all family...lol

I find it better to only add people I want to hear from, hence having only a dozen people on mine.
