Facebook - A lot more hidden/private profiles?

Has anyone else noticed that quite a lot more people are now making their profiles completely hidden so that only friends can see them?

I'm not talking about people who may have blocked me, but when friends of friends of friends, etc, comment on other peoples' status', etc, but their name and icon is greyed out? :shrug:

Lol. Anyway, this is what I mean:

For instance, Duncan, who wrote the status, is my friend. Only one of the replies to his status is from another friend of mine. The other people have nothing to do with me, but at least I can click on their name to see if we have any mutual friends, or "add as friend" tab. Their profiles are still private, not completely hidden, ie I could still search for them. There's two people who you can't even click on the name, ie there's no way to search for them or even see if you have any mutual friends. Again absolutely no one to do with me. This is happening a lot in the last week or so, but it was never like that before.
