has face book had its day? loss of folk I know have just wandered off and give up on it.......and I am just plain bored with it.....thoughts?

It won't have it's day until something else that does the same comes along, and it won't happen as easily as with MySpace as the number of and type of people is different. There's a lot more to lose on the commercial side too.

Saying you're bored of it is like saying you're bored of phone calls or letters, it's just a communication medium.

I live in berkshire and my best friends live in Sheffield, Canada & Brazil so I find it good to keep in touch with them but otherwise I don't really use it. I never was one to update my status all the time etc though...

For a hard-of-hearing out-of-work agrophobic caring for an elderly mum - which is happening to me - it's a godsend!

I guess it's horses for courses. It's a bit like keeping a diary - as in Mae West once said "Only the good guys keep a diary because they have the time". :D

Although I do try and keep my comments and status as positive and light hearted as possible, as nobody likes a facebook whinger. And let's face it, it's facebook what caused me to be well known on a local scale as "The Cloud Master" (I do my weather forecasts on it) and yet I don't have to set foot outside! Plus I bring a smile to people's face as I also drop off my cartoons in Facebook
So all in all, it suits me fine as I find real life conversations a bit tiring anyway due to my parial hearing loss. In facebook I can leave comments and reply to other people at my own leisure and then go off to do other bits and pieces.

Funnily enough but Twitter just hadn't gelled with me even though I have signed up on in there ages ago, but that account still remains completely untouched.

Its boring the hell out of me now.

same here, 90% of my friends on there never post so it's the same 10% who are really active. It's useful to have in some ways but not something I would spend more than 10 minutes at a time looking at

I find it useful for hearing what people I rarely get to see are up to.

I have a small number of contacts on it (17 at the last count), I'm not one of those that adds everyone I have ever met and plenty that I haven't.

For one liners and the odd hello Twitter knocks FB sideways. It's still got it's place, but it's not the be all and end all of social media anymore.

Oooh - did someone just say Myspace? What's that then?

Well Well Well

There was a thread on here a while back were I said facebook was just a passing fad and would die off similar to myspace, and boy did I get slated.

Now look at this thread and the news rumour that facebook is losing 10 million members a month in the USA and 100K here.

Looks like I was wrong all along ;)

I find it a place with alot of miserable whingers, :suspect: but on the upside it has put me in touch with old school friends i haven't seen since we left and some great new friends and photographers :)

Plus ive had a bit of work out of it recently too!.

I do find Twitter much easier to get on with though.

I'm on it but am also bored I figure if they were real friends you should know already! Just keep an eye on people to see what's going on...

I used to hate it at first, I didnt see the point, then I really got into it, loved some of the games on there.....met my future husband too! Just lately I find it less interesting, I deleted a few people who did nothing but put feeds about their babies (little Bobby just puked/sat up/smiled etc etc) or whinged a lot. I keep in touch with a few old friends I would not otherwise hear from but thats about it these days. I cant cut the cord just yet, but it is just another form of communication now.
I think it will be kept alive by teenagers who are unable to do anything or say anything without publicising it to their 800 'friends' every few minutes. :)

I still use mine on a daily basis to keep in touch and have a laugh :)

Never saw the need for it, or wanted to be "friends" with randoms, it'll die a death same as the fest when the next flavour of the month hits.

I'm an avid FB user and think if used correctly and in the right "spirit" it's a great social tool.

I think on the last count I've got about 720 "contacts", yes a lot of them are genuine friends but some are more "acquaintancies" but I still like to keep in contact with them.

A large group of my contact are family so it's nice to see what everyone's up to (and I usually get the gossip before my Mum does  )

It's also great for photo sharing too (IMO)

I'll be the first to admit that sometimes I do just put statuses on for a reaction, note reaction as opposed to attention seaking, I get plenty of attention in "real life" where I will also just do or say things to get a reaction

On top of that, it also helped me uncover my ex-wife's extra-curricular activities (well that along with her volunteering her work username and password which gave me access to her emails that pretty much catalogued her affair with a colleague  :bonk: ) Facebook helped me fill in the blanks

Been off it for 6 months or so now. friends started to update it less and less, seems just got to the point where daily there was request coming in from random people. (I updated security detail weekly to keep up with my lock down on it - even a lot of contacts couldn't see what I updated {work} )

Not to mention the spam from FB selling details - email address set up for FB only.

I do use FB but for one thing only, I'm a member of a closed group dedicated to roller derby photography (159 members and by invite only). Now that is really good as it's full of people concerned with just this one subject no off topic allowed. Picked up some excellent info.

I can't be a***d with it anymore! The only thing I do now is put pictures on there for my friends to see. I used to use it loads and loads, loved playing games like farmville and also what put me off using it properly, facebook crashed far to often. Maybe one day I will use it to it's full potential. Anyway I have a better site to concentrate on which is of much more use and importance to me

Im on it quite a bit for a couple of reasons... I'm part of a team of people that organise and run a historic larp and, though we have a site and forum, not everyone is a member and/or dont check it very often, so facebook is excellent for keeping players informed.
Secondly, some of my friends are those type to have a billion email adresses and add new ones daily so guessing which account to use us impossible.
Third, and lastly, when I work nights I often pass the time by playing the games, like poker for example, which some of my friends also use.

I do think, as has been said, its only still ao popular because nothing of the same style has come along to replace it yet, like facebook did with myspace and bebo.

has face book had its day?

No, it's going to be around for quite some time yet. It's managed to weave its way into our lives in such a way, it's simply not going to fall off the edge of a cliff in the same way MySpace or Bebo did.

loss of folk I know have just wandered off and give up on it.......and I am just plain bored with it.....thoughts?

Most likely, but it's really only as good as the people you are connected with and what you wish to use it for?

It's a social media tool, it's for listening and engaging with other people with. Have pubs had their day as less people go into them now..people still go into them and use them just in a different way.

I think Facebook is here to stay, it's just how they use it to keep us going back to it.

I actually think at some point, something will replace it in the status updates and all - maybe it'll all go to twitter. Or google will make something (I also believe in 10 years we won't have the internet, we'll have the google.)

Buuut I think facebook will live - as the social games platform. Farmville, cafe world, cityville, othervilles, x y and z citys, virtual fish tank games.. I think those are the future of facebook.

Google have tried and failed spectacularly a couple of times already with social media, so unless they're able to hop into bed with Facebook or Twitter anytime soon, they're going to get left behind weirdly enough.

I suspect the biggest competition out there to Google, FB and other social media channels presently is video, and don't forget YouTube is owned by Google. You can see in a few years or so us wanting everything in video form streaming from the Internet including info we search for...that's my guess, you heard it here first :D

I only really use my facebook account now to manage my photography page, no other reason to be honest

Much prefer Twitter now as appose to Facebook

I used to be on it 24/7 practically. I even met my wife on it! I was one of the 1st people I knew on it years ago when everyone was like 'facebook what?', but now everyone is on it and it's mentioned far too much on Jeremy Kyle it just made me lose interest. Deleted my account about 2 years ago, thought I'd really miss it but after a couple of days I'd found other things to do with my time.
