F22 in the studio

Just watched a YouTube video. Tog was shooting a model - normal studio conditions. Settings were 1/125th, ISO 100 (all normal), but F22.

F22 seems rather high? Only reason I can think of doing this would be to minimise ambient light.

Thoughts?

Unless he was shooting on medium format, f/22 is just a recipe for diffraction limitation. Mind you, anyone can be an expert on the web...

Maybe the Sun was in the studio?

It is possible to have a flash that's too powerful on its minimum setting for your requirement (eg, you want the flash with reflector really close) and you don't have an ND filter, but f22 is ridiculous.

makes for a softer image. some photographers shoot for max DOF then blur the background. you can see in some of the nude an glamour shoots on the forum by a certain member. what ever works u suppose
