Hello everyone

I’m Simon James, publisher of F2 Freelance Photographer magazine – THE independent magazine for the working self-employed professional, the semi-pro, and everybody working toward the point where they start generating income from their camera.

I’m very pleased to be here on TP and will happily try to answer any questions you might have about being a freelance professional or semi-pro photographer. I’m also interested to talk about the ways in which the freelance industry is moving and to hear your comments, opinions and experiences on the subject, as well as review member web sites and give feedback.

F2 Freelance Photographer magazine is built around a series of interviews with working professionals at a variety of levels including: our Turning Pro section which each issue features a photographer turning professional at a mid-career point. Our Starting Out feature meanwhile talks to a photographer no more than two years out of college about how they took their first steps into the world of the working photographer. Every issue we also run a major feature on a single specialist area relevant to working freelances – the current issue looks at some of the ways in which successful professionals offer different services to make themselves stand out in the highly competitive Events Photography sector

We’re really pleased to be on TP and as a part of this are running a Special Introductory Offer To F2 Freelance Photographer. If you’d like to receive the next three issues of the print edition of F2 Freelance Photographer sent to your door for just £5.00 (normal price in WH Smith £3.99 each) please click the link below
http://f2freelancephotographer.com/f2-freelance-photographer-tp-offer.html or click on one of our banners on the TP forum.

Please note this offer is only available to TP members with a UK postal code who are new to F2 Freelance Photographer

We hope you find F2 Freelance a really useful resource for your freelancing and also an entertaining read that keeps you up to date with what’s going on in all things freelance.

Simon

Just wanted to say that I've just finished reading the second of my free issues and am suitably impressed with both the content and quality of the magazine. I will certainly be continuing to read F2 Freelance after the 3rd issue but not via subscription ... my other half works for WH Smith so I'm planning to benefit from her staff discount :D

Keep up the good work, Simon

Hi Steve and thanks for the compliment - you will gather we try to make f2 Freelance really useful to the freelance photography industry and everyone wanting to get started. Incidentally I'm not sure what discount you can get through Smith's staff scheme but do also check our offer for TP members who wish to continue receiving f2 Freelance on our thread over on Talk Business - we're offering a special 20% discount scheme for TP members who to want to continue receiving the magazine

We are incidentally also available digitally from the App Store, GooglePlay and www.pocketmags.com You can also find us on Face Book where we are "F2 Freelance Photographer Magazine" - we're using the Facebook page to keep you updated between publication dates and give you updates on what's happening to photographers we have featured

Here at F2 Freelance we're interested to hear from anyone leasing rather than buying their equipment.if you've chosen this route please drop me an email or respond here - I keep hearing how tax efficient it is and am interested to hear what pitfalls you can one across or for that matter if there aren't any!

F2 Freelance Photographer will be sharing the Bureau of Freelance Photographers stand again this year at Focus and I will be at the show all four days - do please stop by and say hello if you have time while visiting the show. It would be great to meet TP members in person.

I note you are the PUBLISHER of this magazine not an editor or staff, are you here just to sell it then????????

Hi Les

By way of explanation we aren't what you might describe as the largest of publishing houses. The directors are David Land, who spends all his time editing our two titles (we also publish the Royal Photographic Society Journal under contract to The RPS) and myself, so we both work on the editorial, as well as deciding what goes into the magazines. I do write for F2 periodically but most of the time I work on the publishing side, which these days also includes the web site and the Facebook page (which we are increasingly using to talk to our readers between publications and will be using increasingly to keep you up to date with what has happened to photographers we have previously featured) And yes as a part of that it is my job to try and increase our sales, and yes we do hope you will like F2 Freelance Photographer enough buy it regularly - which of course is the reason we are making the three issues for five pounds special offer for TP members.

F2 however can only exist while it makes itself an invaluable resource for freelance professionals - if it doesn't do that there is absolutely no point to it, and we hope you will see the real advantage that comes from our being so small. We can also only do our job properly while we are making every effort to interact with freelance professionals in as many specialities as we can - so I'm also keen to talk to TP members about the industry, the continuous changes it goes through and hear your views. I'm also always on the lookout for photographers with a story I think our readers would want to hear about. One of our regular features for example is called Turning Pro (a title we've been using since before the magazine of that name was started) and only yesterday I came across a TP member who will I think make an excellent Turning Pro feature

If you're coming to Focus by the way, an have time in your day, do please stop by for a chat
