F2.8 Lens for Ringside .....

Looking at getting an F2.8 Lens for low light ringside boxing photographs.

I've got a Canon 450D, and use a Nifty Fifty at the moment, but the 50mm is not ideal. Looking for something a little wider.

Have heard Sigma do a decent one (?)

Any ideas / links etc?

Looking at spending in the next few weeks as got a few shows coming up in the new year.

Problem is - not got a great deal of money to spend, so looking at ebay / second hand I would have thought.

Around £200 probably

Any comments / advice etc would be appreciated.

Have you thought about a 28mm f2.8 prime? Very good image quality and can be found around the £100 mark second hand....

Think Jessops sell them brand new for roughly £180

Also, consider the Sigma 18-50 2.8 version, as well as the Sigma 30mm 1.4 (could be over your budget though) and Nikkor 35mm 1.8 AF-S...

Remember the crop factor, a 24mm is not very wide on a half frame sensor, something starting at 16-18mm might be more useful.

Don't want to go down the prime route. As mentioned, I use the 50mm f1.8 at the moment, but the ability to zoom in/out is what I really want.

Still can;t find anything but the Sigma for the £200 mark. Both Tamrons (24-70 & 17-50) are closer to £300; which I can't stretch too - unless I am looking in the wrong places!

i can recomend the siggy 18-50 ex dc 2.8.
i use mine for gigs , and i am well chuffed with it.
reasonable money too.
mine lives on my 30D
