Are these events ticket only or can anyone just pitch up pay on the gate as I may be of to valencia in feb. Tried all known websites but no joy.

I vaguely remember people going last year from here

Thanks in advance
Mark

As far as I know, you can buy them at the gate, and in Valencia, last year they were between €5 and €25, though I didn't end up going. I can't guarantee it, but that should hopefully help!

Does anyone know how I could find out when they're testing at Silverstone ? I only live down the road and would love to go along to that.

I think Silverstone testing isnt until 24, 25, 26 of June (not far off from the GP) but two days have already sold out. This coincides with the GP in Valencia, so just test drivers! Tickets have gone up to £12, which still isnt bad...

Viewing is restricted to Farm only though (the stretch of track between Club and Abby).

The sigma 150-500 or the nikon 70-300 vr as they are the 2 im undecided on buying.

Dont fancy lashing out all that money to buy one and its pants for motorsport etc...

Have you been to Valencia before? It's not what you call photo friendly. It's all grandstand seating and a bit like a NASCAR oval in that you sit in your seat with the circuit laid out in front of you.

Is there any info on other UK venues/dates for F1 teams doing testing???

Last September I went to Duxford where Lotus were doing straight-line testing down the runway, was a pretty good day out!

I had heard but seeing as it was all paid for by my boss I thought it would be rude not to go.

There is a rumour I might have some special passes but we will see

But thanks for taking time to let me no much appreciated

Cheers

Barcelona testing days will be in late February.
In the "Circuit of Catalunya" you can walk, and shot, almost everywhere, with 4-5 very good points to shot.
Last year the one day ticket was 5€.

I've been to both Barcelona (2009) & Jerez (2010) for testing & can throughly recommend it. It's a great way to practice your action technique all day if you want for a minimal entry fee (if a bit lonely!)
The ticket for Barca allows you access the outside of the whole track, but not all stands around the track are open. There are some good positions to shoot from and the variety of angles is great, but you are quite far from the tarmac in a lot of areas. I had a 300mm on a crop body and wished I could have greater reach. The main grandstand is covered though and at the end of the sessions/day the drivers do practice starts on the grid, so there's some good opportunity for closeups.
Jerez on the other hand is a smaller track with less angles and interest through elevation changes tec, but the 'VIP' ticket allows you access to the main grandstand (uncovered, not so great for the monsoon of last year) and the inside of the track, which means being able to hang over the chainlink fence extremely close to the track in some parts.
Just be aware that any day that Alonso is driving (which will be two days of a four-day test) will be mental with crowds, the other days like a ghost town!

no worries.. in all honesty the spanish at the portuguese tracks arent hard to get trackside on. You can pretty much walk or drive around the access lanes without a pass.. but i didnt tell you that :)

Last year security was tightened, there was always a member of staff on the access gates in Valencia. And in Jerez they actually banned anyone using their car to get around.

The reason for this is because someone who probably shouldn't have been trackside in a car managed to block an incident vehicle, or so i'm lead to believe. Another probable reason being that there are so many more fans there now.

If you can get trackside, fair play to you, (the Italian grand prix always has punters trackside!), Just be sensible about it.

looking to go to Jerez as we can be 15 mins away. Anyone know the dates/

Are any of the Spanish test venues worth it without a car? ie can you get a bus there then walk to/around the track?

You can get a train from Barcelona to the Circuit de Catalunya. Maybe 30 mins.

well it looks like ill be getting the sigma 150-500 os for this trip as long as i can find a second one in time.

i held the cannon version yesterday in my local shop and i didnt thing it was as heavy as everyone is making out.

going out with bmi back with ryan air

i appreciate that but from a personal point of view from what i carry about at work and the weight i carry on a days shooting has never bothered me.

The valencia trip will only be for a day at the track.

We will see i may be completely wrong :D but seeing as im male i wont admitted it :D

but i do appreciate your input

i have a monopod and planned on using it. i thought you meant in just general lugging about.

when i was looking into such a large lens i knew it would be better off for pictures and for me.

Got me new lens now just seen the weather forecast for next week raining what a surprise

Hope they are wrong

I'm pretty sure there's no F1 testing at Silverstone in 2011 - Same as last year.

Yep, sadly this is true :( It's a damned shame too because it meant good access for those who just wanted a taster of the sport and a good old practice.
