anyone going to silverstone this week for f1 testing am going with daughter have never took motorsport so any tips please shall be using 50-400mm sigma d200 have also got a x1.4 and 2,0 teleconvertors

Going on Wednesday.

Luffield corners best for photography - much of the circuit is off limits.

50-400 lens will be fine, best to stick it on Shutter priority. Try a front 3/4 shot at around 1/320s or slower, and some panning shots starting at 1/125 and try to go lower. Lowest ISO. Servo focus or whatever the constantly refocusing mode is on a Nikon

Not going to the practice, but I am going to the actual GP. Can't wait!

Well i thought i would post in here and give you the benefit of what i found out today having been along.

Luffield A and B are open, round to farm and upto club corner. Some excellent shooting positions i thought, between myself and my mate we shot over 20 gig of images by lunchtime. Most of the teams were there although certain drivers are only there on certain days, i can remember which ones unfortunatly, it was announced over the circuit tannoy.

Hope this helps people

Also 200mm is more than enough around luffield if you creep upto the mesh fencing when the gestapo are not around and also more than enough around farm and club.

I took along a 70-300 with me to the recent Renault World Series and managed to get this at Club:

This is pretty much straight from the camera, i.e. no crop so you will be fine with the 50-400.

oh, probably should mention that this was one of the few "good" ones, so take along plenty of memory cards and be prepared for a lot of sorting when you get home if you've never had a go a panning before - I hadn't until that weekend :)

I'll be there tomorrow (Wednesday) I will be in one of the hospitality suites with Wessex oils, and we also get a walk round pits!! so I hopefully my Nikon 18-200mm will be enough.

just a question guys would you shoot raw or jpg??

That's great news that Club corner is open, easily the best place for photos!
