Yes
So the 2015 season is only just finished and the 2016 calendar is published.

A meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Wednesday confirmed a change in the F1 sporting regulations, increasing the maximum permitted number of races in a season from 20 to 21. The 2016 campaign will therefore feature more rounds than any other in F1 history, surpassing the previous benchmark of 20 from 2012.

The expanded calendar features one new race - in Baku, Azerbaijan on June 17-19 - and the return of a Grand Prix in Germany, with Hockenheim hosting the race. Australia will once again host the season opener, on March 18-20, while Abu Dhabi will stage the final round for a fifth time, on November 25-27.

The 2016 calendar also includes six back-to-back weekends - Canada and Baku, Austria and Great Britain, Hungary and Germany, Belgium and Italy, Malaysia and Japan, and the USA and Mexico will all be held on respective consecutive weekends. The USA’s slot remains provisional.

Tyre compounds and allocations have been sorted out
Basically a new compound will be added to the 4 dry weather tyres at present, making it ultra soft, super soft, soft, medium and hard
But as usual the FIA have chosen a weird and wonderful way of allocation
In the words of Grosjon "I am glad I have an engineer to work this out for me "
Corect me if I am wrong
Allocation
13 sets per weekend to each team
1 set returned 40 minutes after the start of FP1
1 set returned after FP1
2 sets returned after FP2
2 sets returned after FP3

1 set returned from the teams in Q3 (those outside Q3 will be able to use that tyre in the race )
As normal fastest lap time in Q2 will be the tyre used to start the race

Compounds
Pirelli will specify 3 compounds out of the 5 for each race
The teams will pick 10 sets of compounds out of the 3 specified
Pirelli will then choose 3 sets of 2 more compounds from the 5 (they can choose compounds outside of what the teams have available to them) but only after the teams have chosen to limit extreme strategy
One of the Pirelli choices must be run in the race (as ultra soft and hard would be very unlikely to be run in a race you might see 3 compounds being used, pirellis choice plus the teams )

Each team will then end up with 7 sets for the race and qualifying, ( those reaching Q3 will have to give the Q3 tyres back leaving them 6 sets for the race, whilst those not reaching Q3 will have 7 sets for the race )

The teams must choose within a time constraint if they do not specify which compounds to use Pirelli will choose for them
Tyres the teams are using will be published 2 weeks before a race

Pirelli have been criticized in the early days for their tyres reaching the cliff with the loss of traction They are now being criticized for making conservative tyres
To counter this it appears they are making the tyres to the cliff design but trying to force more pit stops, so racing is more intense between

I have a feeling it will still be a race for 10 laps a consolidation then a race for the last ten laps

Will the average fan understand the tyre regs ?
Will it make the race less confusing with the guy you support going from 2nd to 10th and back to 3rd with the pit stops for the casual viewer ?

Looking forward to this again, although as I'm not a sky customer hopefully BBC retain a good chunk of broadcast rights to the live races.

The new tyre regs seem to be overly complicated, again... I don't mind the rule of enforcing the use of two separate compounds in a race, that makes sense really, but all this nonsense about Pirelli choosing this & that, and the teams giving back certain sets at certain times, is just utter rubbish. They need a simple contract in place that says "Ok Pirelli, you make us loads of tyres, the teams will choose what to run, within reason, and everyone will have a great time."

I personally think it would be interesting to see if there was much difference between something like a 4 stop strategy on all super soft tyres, vs a 1 stopper on hard tyres...

Anyone know what the BBC will be showing? has that been sorted yet? I cant bring myself to get involved with SLY TV again as much as I would like to watch all the F1....

The bbc will be trying to sort out the clashes such as the football european championship the olympic games and of course Wimbledon, the fa cup semi finals and the london marathon

At least they're saving Clarkson's wages now!

On an F1 note, will Nico R. have a job at Mercedes in '17? His contract is up at he end of next year while Lewis H.'s has a few years to run.

There have been rumours of it going to ITV or C4.

Its enevitable something with a large audience has to go too a channel with adds...........Its the way.

I agree, better FTA with ads than it going completely subscription tv.

Definitely, but when itv had it I was annoyed by the double standard, which meant no ads during football, but more frequent than the equivalent to half time, in F1

Ecclestone and the invisible man have until the 31st of January to make F1 more exciting and cheaper (for the teams that is)
Stand by for fantasy island taking over
The F1 Commission rejected this independent engine concept, preferring to specify a cheaper, simplified and noisier version of the curet hybrid turbos. In mandating Todt and Ecclestone, the WMSC asked them to “establish conclusions on these matters by 31 January, 2016.”

The poisonous dwarf is now saying Mercedes and Ferarri are to blame for all of F1's problems as they are obstructing change.

Mercedes and Ferrari's stranglehold on rule-making risks "destroying" Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone says.

F1's commercial boss said Mercedes and Ferrari were blocking changes he wants to make the sport more competitive.

"We're trying to save the sport and these people are trying to save it for their own good," Ecclestone said.

dumb nut Marko mouthing off about Ferrari being in a cartel against red bull might not be a smart move for the power plant in the torro rossa but then he has argued very convincingly for a donkey renault in 2016
A real smart negotiator

Well, like Bernie, Horner's a less than successful ex-driver. Not sure he can afford to buy F1, even using wifey's money.

No need to buy F1 just be available to take over (who ever owns F1 would need a Bernie or clone of) when Bernie goes and I am sure Red Bull would release him for the advantages it would give them

If that happened (as in him giving Red Bull/Torro Rosso any advantage), it would be the end of F1 - the other teams would take their toys away and play somewhere else. If motorsport still exists, especially in a format as specialised and niche as F1.

Do you think so
FIA ferrari international assistance, remember that. Now ferrari management has changed and the love affair with bernie is over He is facilitaing new engines (which would suit Red Bull) the emphasis that was moving away from aero is now the in thing to return (Red Bull strength) and wasnt it bernie that said Mercedes should have given Red Bull there best engines
I am sure Horner could carry on in the footsteps of Bernie very well

All Bernie cares about is £££'s.

In the past, keeping Ferrari happy/'competitive' was important for F1's value. They do still get the best financial deal, to keep them sweet. Red Bull must be one of the biggest marketing entities in the world, so it will be important to keep them involved, for Bernie, & he's more than happy to bend/adjust the rules accordingly.

I just want to see good racing, on the BBC, so I'll be happy if the grid is equalised a bit, & I'd like to see eased bills for smaller teams.

All Bernie cares about is power he has enough money

If I get this right you dont mind bending rules as long as it looks good for the show Why does that remind me of 1970's wrestling, a massive viewing audience that melted away as it got more gimmicky and fake

.

F1 has always tried to be the team that has the best car and or driver wins the trophy not who can bend the rules the best as for the smaller teams then yes a fairer system of spreading the money would ease there burden but not necessarily make them any better The up and possibility of an eu investigation might change that and a lot of other things

Another possibility of increasing the chances of winning is more teams Alpha may come into F1 the fact that they are owned by Fiat means a three pronged attack of Ferrari Alpha and Haas with 6 cars they should get somewhere

Teams have been bending the rules/pushing the envelope for as long as I've been watching.

It's the engineers job to exploit every opportunity 101%, that will never change. That the governing body turned a blind eye to the behaviour of their favourites, is another matter, & inexcusable, but Im not holding my breath on that changing either.

Motorsport has always been about getting an edge (well, at least it has been since the vehicles became moving billboards for the sponsors!) in any way possible, whether it's by exploiting loopholes in the rules, buying the best drivers, bankrupting the opposition or plain cheating and hoping you don't get caught! For years, F1 has been getting less and less interesting ion the tracks while the engineering and politics has been more attention grabbing. Actually, the same can be said for pretty much every sport these days - money is the object now, not competition.

Haven't seen this mentioned previously, TorroRosso are going back to Ferrari engines next season.

Toro Rosso have confirmed that Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz will race with Ferrari power in 2016 after agreeing a deal with the Italian manufacturer to use current-specification power units.

Faenza-based Toro Rosso, who ran Ferrari engines between 2007 and 2013 before switching to Renault, will use the very last specification of engine that the Scuderia used in 2015.

"It's great to be working with Ferrari again,” said Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost. “We had a fruitful relationship in the past and I'm sure it won't take long for us all to be working together very well again.

This could cause some embarrassment if the 2016 Renault engine is as bad as the 2015 version.

ITV?

I don't mind, as long as we don't get adverts every 20 minutes o_O

Interesting tweet.

And so the @ITVF1 twitter account has been relaunched...

Oh well, RTL with Radio 5 for the commentary..

Yes, I've just been reading about this too. There's a press release about it on the Channel 4 website, apparently "Live races to be broadcast without advertising breaks"

The whole "spectacle" is an advertising parade anyway! ;)
