Could be of interest to someone :)

Albert Square is to become a mini-Silverstone for August Bank Holiday weekend as F1 team to town. Attractions include a full-size pit garage, kart racing and an exhibition of team colours and helmets, but the stand-out highlight will come on Bank Holiday Monday when Deansgate is closed off and Jenson Button will show off the power of his championship car by driving it up and down Deansgate (Sat 27 - Mon 29 Aug)

and i am working or i would have tried to get there

I wonder who's gonna be quicker at taking the wheels off in the pit garage... the crew or a handful of looters...

Sounds good - wish I was up that way, cos I'd be going...

Looks good! Good date material me thinks! Need to find out if I'm eligible with Vodafone! :D

a couple of years ago i saw david coultard in the red bull driving past belfast city hall. red bull seem to do this sort of thing all over the world. awesome sight and the the sound bouncing off the walls of the buildings sends a shiver down your back :)

if you are at all into f1 and can get to it i would say get your arse to manchester for this.

Aah remembers the F3000 cars racing round Birmingham fondly.

when I log in to Vodafone VIP, i only brings me to a prize drawr thing - so that seems to be all it is?

I thought I saw that you got into some of the Saturday stuff as well. Maybe the go-karting? I'm not a Vodafone customer though, so could be wrong!

Is it worth putting something in the meeting place forum, if there are a few of us going down?

...and take some ear plugs :D

:plusone:

When the A1 GP came to Manchester they were giving ear plugs away all over the place, but I'd still take a set myself just in case.

For an idea of how close you should be to the action this is from the A1 GP Demo .

Apart from actually at the races. The noisiest F1 car I have heard was also David Coulthard. This time at Wembley Stadium. That was loud.
In built up areas, (Manchester or Monaco!) the sound of an F1 car is indeed deafeningly painful.

It's hard to take photographs with both hands clappped to your ears.

The team will be quicker at fitting them back on :D

I'm guessin jenson will be there Monday as its the Belgian grand prix that weekend?

Can't make it to Manchester:(
Because I shall be watching Jenson at Spa the day before :cool:Then finishing my Hols:)

even harder on a nokia 5800 because i didn't have a dslr at the time lol. i filmed a few minutes and the audio from it sounds like darth vaders tie fighter :D

Wow. An amazing experience. It wasn't as loud as I was expecting, but the smell really caught me by surprise (engine oil/fuel, before anyone makes any jokes about Manchester streets after a night out).

A quick photo from the afternoon (hard to see, but there's a 'Love Mcr' sticker on the side too):

I didn't bother with this today because of the rain*

* This is a complete fabrication. Although it was raining, I plum forgot

Any more pics? did Lewis make an appearance or was his car packed against a bollard somewhere.

I've got a couple more on Flickr (follow the link in the previous post), but not too many yet. I was a bit too far away for most of it.

Oh, and I don't believe Lewis was due to make an appearance, regardless of yesterday's performance.

Finally pieced all my videos of the Vodafone Live event in Manchester over the bank holiday.

Crank the sound up and listen to that screaming V8 and tyres squaling and fighting all the way!

Off topic slightly, massively impressed with the video quality for a phone!

I'm amazed they let it go ahead given the road conditions, those plastic barriers don't look like they'd do much if he'd lost control of it

Well, he built up slower than that video shows. Plus he did a couple of runs there and back in both a Merc estate and the McLaren MP4-12C road car first
