Yes me too. I have always been put off taking my camera there cos it's so flat and there aren't many good spots (I stand to be corrected on that one!).

You might get more advice in the motorsports forum.

Cheers

Same advice as usual, leave the camera behind and enjoy the racing...

But id really like to take it to really try and get some good shots, i will be enjoying my self more than actually taking pics all the time lol im sooooooooooooooo excited!!!!

I'd only take the 18-55 to get atmosphere shots unless you've got a special lens that clones out fences...........

no unfortunatly i couldnt afford that perticular model lol, yeah i was thinking about using that, cheers

Well, the "formula" for that is to get yourself media accredited (which is v. difficult for something as big as F1!) and take about 6k's worth of gear trackside...

There are quite a few places at Silverstone where you can get decent shots, the fence doesnt always get in the way and it has some useful banking. I've been there for plenty of races (including the GP in 2006 and 2007 but only had my bridge camera!) and track days and found it to be one of the more 'tog friendly tracks.

I think the advice of taking atmosphere shots is good, given your gear. A tip for another day, go to Silverstone when there is no racing, but a few of the teams are testing. I went with a mate a few years ago and we walked all around the track, no other people were there, my mate even walked out an open trackside gate onto a run off area, as coulthard was screaming past.

I'm going Friday and really excited too even though a lot of feedback I've read on Silverstone doesn't bode well.... Club seems to be the consensus for general admission tickets.

i dont think silverstone is as bad as people saying for photos, some nice spots, the downside is how busy its going to be :(

In that case you'd best be there at the crack of dawn! Don't expect to roll up at eleven and get to shoot...

Fridays are fairly quiet - i'll be taking most of my photo's then

it's saturdays and sundays are packed though

Agreed, You can get pretty much anywhere you want on the Friday without to much of a crowd.

The banking near abbey is decent, you can get over the fencing there and its a decent angle.

Obviously if you stay there all day they will all look the same though.

Cheers..

im really lucky because the mate who got me the tickets got us V.I.P hospitallity suite lol thanks for the advice guys, any tips on panning????

Nice one Zak..
Take both lenses if you are going to get real close to the advertising girls in the market.. use the kit lens ,haha... Manual focus teh sigma and u might be able to lose the fence.
I haven't been to silvo since the days of Senna and Mansell so no idea how the fences are now.

Good luck mate.

thanks mate =] not spoke in a while lol yeah i was thinking manual focus with the sigma, hmmmm yes the girls....lol im soooooooo excited!!!!!

cheers mate
