F@k factor

Ah real entertainment, you mean like Hughie Green used to muster up from the homeless shelters every Saturday Evening like the guy who could move his stomach muscles, or the one who could dislocate his own shoulder joint, the chap who played spoons and the old bird in the dowdy dress who spoke posh and read poetry, oh how i long for those golden days to return.

Well, no. I meant the likes of Morecambe and Wise, The Two Ronnies, Les Dawson, Ken Dodd, Dave Allen, David Nixon, etc. The list goes on and on (well it would if I could think of any more!).

However, Opportunity Knocks would still be preferable to today's offerings.

One good talent show from the 1970s was New Faces. A couple of my friends won that one year with their band, Kite (that's the name of the band - they didn't win by flying the band's kite!).

Steve.

New Faces - great show

Send in a postcard to vote....

A band at our school went on that and turned up on the Monday after with loads of stamped postcards for everyone in the school to sign and send off

Memory doesn't fully clear but the outcome was that the band won that week and were then disqualified for the postcard "fraud". A dark day at our school!

But there were fantastic shows that were worth staying in to watch. Dave Allen was a favourite of mine.

LOL Vote rigging at its finest
I guess not much has changed either ;)

Dave Allen brilliant

No.
I have taste.

Also...having sold 45 million "records", and taking into account the rate at which they release the garbage...coupled with the probability that each girl will promptly wet themselves and purchase everything available, you'd probably find that one direction's buying base is just a teensy bit smaller than your given 400 million. :)
i actually like their stuff, didnt it say 400 million on their intro on X Factor t'other night, maybe not

Anything has to be better than Rod Stewart and Elton Johnnie

Christ that really is scraping the bottom of the barrel

I've photographed Chloe, she's a really nice girl. It's a shame shes out now. That said I'm not really into the X-Factor. I've just downloaded Pink Floyds new album that's more to my taste !

Really, Ken Dodd, seriously, really.

Oh yes. And he's still going strong today. A friend went to see him at Blackpool's tower ballroom a couple of years ago on his honeymoon (my friend's, not Ken's) and feeling tired after an hour and a half, he went back to his hotel room for a rest (again - my friend, not Ken!). He returned to the ballroom an hour later to find Mr Dodd in full flow and watched the last hour of his show. Three and a half hours on stage.

Compare this with some of the alleged comedians we have now. There's that giggling half wit Sarah Millican whose act seems to consist solely of her saying something with some mild innuendo followed by her giggling for about five minutes. Then there's Ricky Gervais who also just laughs at himself and we have Miranda Hart who is just not funny at all.

We do have some good current comedians but those three are the current dwellers of the barrel basement.

You forgot to add Frankie Boyle to the list of crap comedians...

I went to see Jimmy Carr in Belfast......he was a total disgrace to humanity.....would never pay to see him again........

I would pay not to see him.

I think Boyle is slightly worse than Carr........ either way I would offer either to @ST4 for target practice

Maybe ..... there are other dynamics to that trio....

At the time I seen him he was being hailed as the Jehovah of comedy....I had never actually seen him before that.......

Crucifixion then

I saw him once, in Derby.
He was the "warm up" act for Bill Bailey. Garbage.
Bill Bailey, on the other hand, ....Outstanding.

There is only one great comedian..... ladies and gentlefolk I give you......(insert drum roll)...... Mr Billy Connelly

I'm glad to see its not just me then

He's good I'll give you that :)
I used to like Jasper Carrott too,
(The "mole hunt" is brilliant as is "magic roundabout")
but I've not heard much about him lately.

I saw Jethro a couple of years ago,
He's "tamed down" a bit, but still bloody funny live.
