Started using Ello tonight, seems a decent platform for photographers & designers alike. Any of you guys on there yet?

I have three invites left if anyone would like one just let me know your email - everyone gets five invites to send out so once a couple have gone round it should be simple enough to get everyone on there that wants to be.

What is it?

Edit: Okay, I found the aptly titled page What is Ello? on the website. It seems interesting and, from what I can see, looks like a much better interface for displaying photographs. I could be tempted, although I really don't need another social media account...

Yeah I know what you mean, I wanted a web-based social media cleaner than facebook that I could use though so figured I'd jump on the bandwagon.

I'm not sure it's the most intuitive interface at the moment, but it is a beta and I'm sure that they'll continue working out the kinks. I do like how photos are displayed though.

I've opted to go with 6x6cm as my username; skysh4rk was chosen on here long before I even knew what medium format was! I'll have to play around with it more tomorrow.

Yeah 6x6 is a good idea. I wasn't sure what to go with at first, whether to do something to do with photography or just my name. Opted for my name in the end, dunno why, I just did it.

I do agree theres some niggles but as you say its beta so I'm sure they'll sort it. My main bug bear is that on a small screen like on a laptop there isn't much of a window to see photos, lots can't be viewed fully and you have to scroll to see parts.. It looks lovely on a big screen though.

If my first name had been available, I likely would have chosen that.

I'd like to be an early adopter for a change, though it turned out I'd had a facebook account for 5 years before I actually set it up (I registered my email address for some reason back in 2008 and left it at that).

Thanks to RJ for the invite. My invites have come through - I've sent one to @RaglanSurf , so I should have 4 left, I believe, for other F&Cers. PM me your email if you want one.
 
One of my photographer friends has joined Ello. Today I've made the decision to delete FB for good so looking for something new. Does this look promising? How can I play?

It looks like it might be promising, maybe. The interface is quirky, the features are few, and obviously the "social" aspect depends on who you know on it. On the other hand, it's ad-free and NotFacebook. (And NEW!)

To be honest, I think Google+ is better for photographers, given the way that it integrates with PicasaWeb, and given that it doesn't strip EXIF etc like Facebook does, but Ello is promising.

Sounds interesting. Sick to death of all the pretenders, and idiots on Facebook. I am aware I can block/delete and not accept them, but then you have to have that conversation as to why you haven't done. :)

Just trying to work out how to invite more than one person. The only button that currently does anything is "re-send" for RaglanSurf's invite. There's a +, but it doesn't do anything.
 
I like the minimalist design, but it might a little too minimalist at the moment with regard to features, particularly the lack of any sort of retweet or share capability.

Assuming that they haven't frozen the invitations again, you have to enter an email address by the +.

Yeah. At the moment, I think you'd be better off with a Tumblr with a minimalist theme. We'll see how it progresses, though.

Either there's a bug, or they commented out the invitation code - "Use the buttons below to invite your friends." it says, but there are no buttons at all!

It really needs a "like" feature... I found a page the other day highlighting the features they were going to add in soon, but can't remember where it was for the life of me.

If you click on feature list at the top of the page it'll take you to a page where it lists the current features and then stuff they're planning to implement later on.

The one thing about not having a like button is that it might encourage more engagement and discussion.

The views per post feature is interesting though.

Still no buttons, so still no invite for @gazmorton2000 sorry. If someone else can do it, it'd probably be for the best.
 
I've got buttons if anybody needs a code.
