Sorry if this has already been discussed and I've missed it, but are any of the F&C regulars planning to go to Astle Park Traction Engine Rally this weekend? I've been snowed under with work and life over the last few weeks so I've not even thought about this until now!

It's forecast hot, sunny weather (30C+) but we've been there before and had the sunburn! So I'm up for it if any of the other F&C crew are?

The sunny weather might finally give me an excuse to use some of that Fuji Acros 100 120 stock I have in my freezer, and perhaps even that roll of Ektachrome 100 that's in there!

Aah yes. I'd forgotten about this too.

I did have something else penciled in but I'd rather go to this and meet up with some folk.

I managed to break my ankle yesterday so will have to give it a miss unfortunately. :(
Woah, sorry to read this Nige. Hope you're able to get about at least a bit!

I won't be able to make the rally I'm afraid.

As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't so much forgetting about it as it creeping up on me far sooner than I was ready for! Where has this year gone?!

Anyway, back to the plot... Saturday would be my preferred day of the two (as it's likely to be less crowded), but I'll go with the flow if more people can make Sunday. I wonder if locals @dmb, @Andysnap, @Mrs Snap, @srichards and @Harlequin565 are interested/available and if @sirch fancies a trip darn sarf to sunny Cheshire?

SWMBO says I'm allowed. Saturday OK as she can wait at home for delivery of my latest attempt to buy a working Canon T80, unless it gets here early.

Sounds good. Shall we pencil Saturday in for the time being and see how things look tomorrow (Friday) evening, then aim to confirm which day by 7pm?

I assume the usual 'meet up between 10am and 10.30am outside the beer tent' will apply? Probably best to get there for opening time (the event, not the beer tent!) as I think the show will probably get a bit busy given the good weather.

Thanks Chris. It's not as bad as it might have been, thankfully, and I'm not in any constant pain. It's more inconvenient than anything else as I need to avoid overworking it, so no days out. I can limp about on it ok though, and the hospital gave me one of those plastic walker boots too.

How did you manage that Nige , was it photo related ?

I was out taking photos, but the break just occurred when I was walking down a short set of steps and put my foot down awkwardly at the bottom.
Sorry to hear about your ankle, Nige, and I hope it mends quickly. (y)
Thanks (y) . I was told 4-6 weeks for it to heal fully. A small fragment at the tip of the fibula broke off in the accident, which is apparently less serious than if it had fractured higher up the bone.

Well the T80 arrived today and does autofocus. Will have to give it a quick film test now and see if it comes with me tomorrow.

<edit> 1900hrs - I have negatives, temperature may have risen in tank as look a little over developed, So look for an oldie carrying a T80 near the beer tent - this time wearing hat and longsleeved shirt, still got some scars from sunburn at Smallwood </edit>

Well, it's just gone 7pm so is everyone happy with Saturday? If so, shall we aim for around 10 to 10.30am outside the beer tent (find the main arena and the beer tent is usually on the southern side overlooking it). According to the website, gates open at 10am, so I'll aim to be early to hopefully miss the peak traffic.

Don't forget the sun-block as it looks like similar weather to today! So who else is attending, so we know who to wait or look out for?

Had an enjoyable day at the rally with David and Simon. It was a bit warm though, so we decided to call it quits about 2pm before the heat of the day built up too much. Lots to see as usual, the heat did get the better of us in the end. A cold drink and a bit of a siesta this afternoon put me right though. I hope Simon and David got home safely and did much the same.

Large mug of tea and a siesta for me. Currently on my second large glass of orange cordial with iced water.
Very enjoyable day but, as you say, a tad warm.
Early night methinks.

Chilled coffee and an all day breakfast butty from Holmes Chapel Aldi on the way home helped, cheaper in total than half a portion of chips at the show which the public seemed not to be queuing for.

Out in garden in the comparative cool of the evening watching the bats catching bugs over our little pond.

I agree about the food prices there - there was no way I was going to pay £7.50 for a 1/4 lb cheeseburger, let alone £5 for a portion of chips and cheese, and judging by the lack of a queue at 'peak lunchtime' it appeared that a lot of other people agreed with me. Seeing an ice cream van with nobody queueing at it in weather as hot as that (£3.50 for a standard 99 cone) really brought it home to me that the current economic climate seems as concerning as the meteorological one. Still, it did give me an opportunity to take a social commentary photograph.

Anyway, glad you both got home safely. (y)
