Hi all,
I've got a diopter which I need identified. It came with a Canon A-1, and it's in a Canon Dioptric Adjustment Lens S box, but these are square (and this is circular). It does fit the camera, but isn't what it says on the box.

Anyone have any idea what company manufactured these? Is it perhaps a Nikon accessory? Thanks!

Looks as if it may be part of the right angle viewfinder set.

That's a good thought - doesn't seem to be part of the Canon Angle Finder B or C though. Anyone recognise it?

It looks to me very similar to the Dioptre made for the Leicaflex standard and SL only a bit crude, maybe it is therefore a Russian copy for the Zenit/Zenith type SLR,s.

This is interesting. Many Canon instruction manuals show dioptre corrections lenses in rectangular. I remember in my youth though when I worked in a camera shop as a school boy at weekends, plain circular correction lenses could be bought to put in holders. this looks like the sort of holder that accepted the circular lenses. I have never seen a Canon one but saw lots of Photax, Southall and yashica correction lenses that look like they would fit that holder.

Thanks for the information, that certainly sounds plausible. Having a look again, it does unscrew to change the correction lens. Initially I thought the lens was just clear (I couldn't tell a difference looking through the viewfinder), but it definitely has the effect of zooming out slightly when looking through the camera.

Would this be of interest to anyone? Let me know, and I can pop it in the Freebies section; it's of no use to me.
