Eye Photography Question

I've hada huge interest in eyes recently how taking a photo of eyes captures emotion and just the look of them in photos in stunning. I'm also a beauty blogger and make up artist and i want to be able to show case my eye looks in a portfolio.

I have the canon 600d, a 50mm lens and a 18-55mm lens. However will they focus on my eye, will they chuff, not in manual or macro mode and it's so frustrating! I know alot of eye photos you see online are seriously airbrushes to hell and back. Thats not what i want in the photos im showing they are not my own its what i want to create. Minus all the airbrushing. Baseically i want to know how to get an amzing photo of my eye lol!

Iwould appreciate any tips you guys can give me on how to acheive these forms of photos, im really hoping i don't have to buy another lens ha!

To get a really good shot you'll need to shell out on a macro lens. However, depending on what you want to do with the image, you can actually get reasonable results with cheapo close-up filters. Using these with a bit of spit and polish in PP will give you decent images that will impress your non-photographer friends.
 
Tbh a crop will do for websize. But your lighting and retouching need to be perfect.
 
So i shouldnt need a macro lens? how do i do it with just the lenses i have i can't even get it to focous never mind a decent photo haha! and @ghoti what does 'pp' stand for lol
 
A polariser filter will also cut down on any reflections in the eye. A nice round catchlight can look good.....

What Phil V is suggesting, and he's perfectly right, is that if you're just going to be sticking the photos online then you can take the picture from further away and crop it down and you won't lose any perceivable detail.
PP is post-production (editing in, for example, photoshop).
 
If those aren't your images then you need to delete them from the TP server immediately and link to them instead.
 
aaah i get it now thankyou, if i was to take it from further away would it be as sharp and clear as the photos above?

Focus the 50mm to it's closest focus distance, then move the camera till the eye is in focus (thats the largest you can make the eye). Then crop the image to just the eye, it might be 1/4 of the frame if you're lucky.

PP is post processing. The shots you posted were shot with a softbox from close, you'll need that or window light for similar.
 
I have a soft box as i film for youtube, ill give it a go tomorrow morning and see how i get on, i hope i can finally do it this time lol
 
what manual settings would your reccomend to get the best quality look for the eye?
 
The other option is to invest in a Raynox 150 or 250 which will massively decrease your min focus distance on your existing lenses. Can be tough to work with as you'll need very very small apertures to get any useable DOF but it's a fairly inexpensive option...
 
Shoot with the 50 and crop, make sure you shoot high aperture else you'll get too thin a DOF and obviously you'll need a lot of light because of that, beauty dishes work great in this situation, but use whatever you have.

They never look good sooc so as much as you don't want to you need to 'shop them.
