Yes
Does anyone else suffer from floaters? I seem to have one in particular that just floats around in my right eye and has been there consistently for several months now. I'm going to the opticians tomorrow to get it checked out.

yes, i have them in my left eye. Very bloody annoying it is too

I have done some research into them and apparently dietary changes can help improve... but they are basically bits of protein which float in the eye and cause their shadow to be cast which is the floating thing you see... something like that.

As you can tell by that awful reply I've done extensive research.

thats about it the kayjay, just dont look at anything that is white and its fine. Bit of a pain in the backside for photographing sky.

I have one in my right eye, it only shows up in certain lighting conditions though. Looking into bright sunlight seems to make it show up. Apparently they are blood vessels in the eye left over from when you were an embryo / baby, or so I've been told

I dreamt I had a bad case of them in both eyes, but when I woke up I was still asleep

A couple years of having seizures has given me a few in both eyes. I dont really notice them anymore unless there is a big light shift around me, although I can imagine they are a pain for someone who is not used to them!

Vicky.

Everyone has those and it's perfectly normal. They look like tiny strands of dead blood vessels where it's knotted up in places.
99% of the time you generally "ignore" it, it's when you look at an expanse of white or single coloured area (snowfields, cloud cover, blue sky, even a large blank space on your monitor) and you look around and you can see them small blobby bits "swilling around" in your field of vision.
I tell you what does bother me more - tinnitus. I have it in my right ear and had it all my life, but just like them "floaters" I can "hear it" when it's absolutely dead quiet, but generally I tend to ignore it if I have a little bit of background noise going on, like the telly or a bit of music (but not TOO loud, of course!).

Had to chuckle at Dave Stone's reply. :D

It is very much age related... not a real problem just a nuisance.

I've had a floater (Posterior vitreous detachment ) in my left eye now for about 2 years. At the beginning it was a really annoying as everytime I moved my eyes to the right to look at something the floater would also move to the right then sort of spring back to the middle of the eye. Sometimes depending on the light conditions the floater would look similar to a spiders web.

Really you should go to your GP and ask to be referred to your local eye hospital to be checked by a eye specialist just to rule out anything sinister.

I don't think Opticians have the same experience as a specialist at the hospital with all the speacialist equipment, certainly not the opticians I've ever been to, AFAIC their only there to sell specs
.
Unfortunately there is not a lot can be done for PVD but eventually you forget its there as you will become accustomed to it. I really only see it now sitting in front of the computer monitor or I look for it if you know what I mean. My eyesight remains the same as it was before the floater appeared, it is not affected.

I've got a couple of them, sometimes they annoy me, other times I forget about them

I've had them ever since I can remember. I also get "Stars" if I look at something relatively bright and white - like clouds. Look like little tiny specs of light moving around within the cloud.

I've got a couple in my right eye, but I only notice them when my body is really tired, so I usually just hit the sack and they're gone my morning. Apparently you get them really easily although I was told whiplash and hard sneezing are common reasons for their occurance.

I have loads in both eyes, all shapes and sizes, and have had them for as long as I can remember. I used to get very annoyed by them but not so much any more. I went to see an ophthalmologist about them. He had a look with a slit lamp and said he could see I had loads, but it was nothing to worry about. They can be a sign of something if they suddenly appear, such as an impending retinal detachment.

They're most noticeable when I'm in a dark room with bright windows or lights. Whenever they pass in front the light appears to be diffracted by them.

I've had them for years. Some are like dots and some are like little lines. They're all slightly to the left in left eye so they jump away whenever I try to look at them.

I think a trip to the GP is in order then. It's pretty much identical to what Frank mentions in his post.

Normal floaters are a normal thing, most people suffer from them... they are annoying but it's just one of those things.

I don't think it's fair saying that opticians don't have the experience though and they are only there to sell specs, but I suppose I'm biased as my girlfriends an optician!

I get those 'stars' too. Doesn't happen often, but when it does i don't seem to have been looking at anything bright to set it off.

Also sometimes get a twitchy eyelid on my left eye... although i think it's more a sensation, not sure if it's noticeable when anyone is looking at me. Started thinking maybe it's coming from too much photography lol... 'cos when i'm taking photos i always keep that eye closed while looking through the viewfinder with my right eye. Whatever the reason, it's friggin' annoying anyway!

I usually get them first thing in the morning before I get out of bed. I usually make them move about for a few minutes before getting up, anything to stay in bed that little bit longer :D
