Eye-Fi card help PLEASE !
Only way I have managed to get the card to work is in direct mode. However, if I connect to the card in direct mode then I cannot have an internet connection at the same time. What am I doing wrong ?
TRied connecting the card through my home wireless network but now the images are not uploading :-(

I am guessing your talking about a laptop.... if you are then the laptop can only connect to one wi-fi at a time I think.
you need to hard wire it to your hub I am guessing. unless you have two wifi cards in your laptop.

Well this is what I think your askin

Have you entered your wi-fi details & security info into the card through the Eye-Fi utility. Once connected to your wifi, it should work exactly like direct mode.

Thanks for replies. Think it is a prioritising issue, once on direct mode it will not pick up a WiFi if it becomes available. Just bought a second card and keep one in each mode. Sandisk version from amazon just different sticker and half the price. Same software etc.

I believe the eye-fi card works by checking for an available known wifi network first. Then if not it will use direct mode. Then it has a timeout period in the settings for the card to shut off.

It wont switch from direct mode to wifi automatically. I had a few issues with mine but works a treat now.

Question: Why do you want to use direct mode?

If you are using a PC to recieve your images then just let it connect over the wifi connection. Its quick and simple. The down side is if you are away from the PC/ home network. In this case you can setup relay mode and use hotspots or your phone in tethered mode (watch costs).

As mentioned above, it is normal for a single netcard to be connected to a single network.

Some scenerios that can be overcome are
#1 away from home with notebook. Set direct mode to laptop. In my case, I also have a built in WAN card (mobile modem). This allows my wifi to connecto to eye-fi and WAN card connect to internet simultaneously.
#2 using you tablet or phone to recieve the images via direct mode. This is what I am using. The photos load to the phone in direct mode (disconnecting any exisitng connection to wifi). I can still browse the web as the 3G connects to the internet. I have setup dropbox then to sync everything via hotspots or wifi.

This works well on Android. My only problem is adding GPS data to raw files (which is how I just found your thread).

As a side note, once direct mode has finished it will disconnect (after the setting time) and your laptop will reconnect to the the (home) wi-fi.

I hope this helps

Thanks for reply. Phone not really an option at an event, too slow at uploading.
This place was like they had a Jenner, no wifi, no Internet, even direct mode failed if the camera was more than one metre away from the laptop.
I now have an old fashioned cable in the bag just in case it happens again !
