Hello to everyone, thought it'd be polite to say hello before I jump straight in with the "asking for advice". My names Brian, and I'm 26 from Rugeley in Staffordshire. I am extremely new to this (I mean my current camera has been in a draw years and is a 3mp compact (well what they classed as compact back then!). I do a lot of travelling and wanted to capture my memories a little clearer and with a bit more effect than I can by borrowing my mothers camera :). So hello to all, and bear with my lack of knowledge! But I'm willing to learn and am a fairly quick learner. Also I am going to post in the equipment section about my choices of camera for anyone who wants to assist :).
 
Thanks for the welcome Just Dave, I think I'm going to be very happy here! Just a bit dissappointed I didn't consider doing this sooner but still many years for me to learn :).
 
Welcome Brian.....Don't worry about being extremely new to photography. We are a helpfull crowd .....we don't bite! lol

No question is too daft ...if you don't know something then the only way you will find out is to ask!

Many topics have been covered before in depth so perhaps try a search before starting a new thread to see if your question has already been answered........If you can't find what you need, there are lots of people on here who will help!
 
Thanks everyone, reading around the forums (Thanks everyone!) I've just ordered my camera. Nikon D5100 with 18-55mm lens. Hope I've made the right choice but we will soon find out :D. Thanks everyone, now going to have a look around for best way to use these cameras. One of my main reasons is I take a lot of photos at night and the compacts never seem to manage it at all and have a lot of noise, do you think this camera will have less noise at low light?
 
Hi Brian, :-) I am new as well. I have been on the TP for around two weeks and the people are fantastic:-) I could not praise them enough. So welcome and enjoy your time.
Let's all view your photo's once you have been out. No matter how they look someone will help if it's required. If no help is required then the good points will also be pointed out !!
