If you don't mind me asking... between seeing the title of this link and opening the link... what were you thinking?

I'm throwing this question out there, as I'm trying to get peoples general thoughts on the topic of extreme and what people associate with the word.

Thanks for looking...

(This is apart of my photography exam, so any contributions would be very much appreciated... also the thread will be print screened and put into my exam book as evidence. Thanks again :) )

I thought it was going to be about taking photos of extreme sports due to it being in the Talk Photography section. If you asked it on a forum for a different type of hobby or industry, you'd get completely different perspectives

Something dramatic. I've been thinking about Japan on and off all day and the word extreme made it come to the front of my thinking.

I was just curious at to what you thought was extreme - some kind of punishment TBH.

Two things sprung to mind when I read the title.

1. sports

2. Something of a graphic nature, be it violence( war zone, riots.), or nudity

Gotta agree with the sports.. Either a B.A.S.E jump or cage fight specifically.

I'm not sure what I expected, just something different and a bit out there maybe, or maybe just just a normal picture edited to make it crazy/extreme...

hope it helps

Um - Sandisk cards :p

Since it was in the out of focus section I thought it was a news item or some local interest item.

Ironing!

That someone was using an attention grabbing thread title to make up for a weak photo set, to be honest.

The best answer however was the one that points out that it would depend on which forum the thread's in. It's going to imply very different things in Sport, Nude & Glamour, Equipment/Computers, Landscapes (HDR) etc etc.

You can see that by looking at the replies and what those people are interested in. It's all about psychology; you can influence people by managing the expectation (ie post in Sport which would create a preconception of Boarding, MTB etc), or you can leave it open and try to understand how people create their own preconceptions.

It's similar to creating a political or commercial survey, you need to control both the slant of the questions and the environment that they're asked in

Thought I had better explain my previous answer! I was look at this a few days ago.

Just like to say a big thank you for all the great replies...

And for the few that have mentioned, I wanted the view from photographers, thats why I posted it in the Talkphotography section.

I've also does this on a status on facebook and got some different and interesting results.

Thanks again, and keep 'em coming!

sandisk cards for me. jeez, i need a life.

I too think of the band firstly... usually... :D

But it also makes me think "too far" something has gone or is going "too far".

Take(ing) things to their furthest point?

Something like that anyway... :p

someone going to far to do something, take a photo or extreme dedication to photography like getting Nikon tattooed on their forehead.

Base jumping.

Again,

Thanks for all the replies. This is all very very useful information

My thoughts were people taking risks to get a pic, hanging over a waterfall etd.

Trying to drive a car into the back of a plane taking off, whilst shooting off dinosaurs and wrestling a gorrila in the car... trying to take a panoramic picture of it all with a bulky DSLR...

Or was that a bit ... extreme ?
