Hello all,

I've been looking around on how to extend my 600D's battery life and I was thinking either buying a battery grip or an extra battery pack.

At this point I am unsure which one I should go for but I came up for instance with the following while looking into Amazon,

Canon Battery Grip

Canon LP-E8 (which I think is an original Canon replacement battery pack for 600D)

Cheapest Canon fit battery grip + 2 x battery packs

Moreover, while browsing Amazon I've found lots of grips and battery packs other cheap, more expensive and so on.

In your opinion on which one should I invest on?

Thank you for looking!

If you decide on a grip then go for the real McCoy - not sure on Canon versions but I have always had genuine Nikon grips with my bodies - the latter one I've owned has gone from a D300s to my D700 - so maybe Canon do the same thing...

Some will say 3rd party grips but I'm a genuine "Nikon" equipment dude - you may pay extra but the quality's there (in my eye's that is) some will no doubt disagree but then again its down to your budget & personal preference...

For the smaller cameras, I think non-OEM grips are OK. Tried a non-OEM grip on my 5Dmk2 and didn't like it. The OEM one is much better at a significantly higher price. Ebay is always a good place to pick up cheaper battery grips (just make sure it is UK based and the seller has lots of +ve feedback). I've had good experiences with 7dayshop battery packs too...

BTW, you are lucky if your battery grip will work on any new Canon camera. The 5D and 5Dmk2 have different battery grips and batteries...

I would try and get a genuine second hand battery grip. 3rd party grips don't have the quality. The extra stability and ease of use when taking portraits easily warrants the extra cost of say an extra battery in my opinion.

You don't have to use two batteries in a battery grip. I bought a second hand genuine Canon grip for my 500D and the single battery lasts just as well as before.

I'd get a genuine grip and get a second genuine battery at a later date.

I personally don't see the point of genuine batteries, eBay ones seem to last just as long. After market Canon grips get very good reviews on this forum and are a LOT cheaper than OE Canon products.

Most of my spare batteries are 3rd party ones from 7dayshop and work as well as the genuine originals.

Before splashing out on a grip, see if you can rent or borrow one to see if you like the way the camera feels with it fitted. Despite me having large mands, I hate the way cameras feel and handle with grips fitted - others love them (and some people even just like them because they make the camera look more professional...)

Thank you guys for your comments. Seems like a battery grip is may be the best option. I will consider buying an extra battery pack for now until I find a good 3rd party battery grip. I will give a shot to non-genuine stuff hopefully I won't be disappointed. Already found a couple battery grips which look good and are selling well so I ll go for one of them!

Thanks again!

Save yourself some cash and have a look at linkdelight for grips. Cheaper and no reports of them getting stuck on the camera and needing to be broken off unlike the Canon one.

Had a linkdelight (meike brand) on my 20d for years with no bother.

Likewise 7dayshop for replacement batteries.
