Yes
I have a WD ssd NVME m2 in an external enclosure.
When I plug it into my laptop it is seen and opens up as it should. However, when I plug in into my desktop I get a message saying it is faulty. I've tried it into all the USB slots on my desktop.
Any advice about what to do ?
Please and thank you obviously!

Does the desktop recognise other USB connected devices i.e. memory sticks or memory card reader?

Good question, I'll try my phone....

OK, my phone seems to be seen, but when I try to open it up I'm told the folder is empty (ie This PC, Pixel, folder empty)
I'm using the same cable in each instance btw

Which OS on the laptop & desktop?

Also, what is the make and model number of the enclosure?

Could be a faulty USB socket on the desktop, or possibly just a compatibility issue with the enclosure/cable. I used a Macbook for a while that refused to see external USB devices not made by Apple, and that was a well-known problem at the time. Migh just be someone has been manufacturing on the edge of specifications.

How is the ssd formatted and are you using the same OS on both computers?
Thank you all for your help. Both laptop and desktop are on windows 11.
The enclosure is made by Orico

Drive is formatted as one simple volume ntfs.
What's so odd is that it works fine on the laptop yet doesn't do anything on any of the desktops USB sockets nor an external USB hub.

Looking at the reviews there seem to be a number of other people who've had problems with that enclosure. I notice it's USB-C Gen 3.2 - it may be a compatibility issue (it doesn't explicitly state is is compatible with earlier USB versions) if the laptop has a nice new gen 3.2 port and the Desktop has an earlier version.
I know it can be an issue with some generic USB docks that they will only work with Gen 3.2 ports, for example (found out when my wifes old laptop refused to work with one).

I note that the Orico includes a USB-C to USB-C cable....

You mentioned using the same cable with the laptop and the desktop, are you in both cases using the supplied cable or:-
another USB-C to USB-C
a USB-C to USB-A
or a C to A adaptor in the path.

So, as you mentioned other devices are fine, just trying to see if there is a common factor involved

Have you tried a different USB cable, assuming it's not permanently attached at the ssd?
I've not, but as it works with the laptop I didn't think that would make a difference.
I'll give it a try when I get back - I'm away from home and off to Vietnam in a couple of days....!

OK. The laptop is older than the pc, but that could still be the issue. It hadn't crossed my mind, so maybe I'll try both a different cable and a different enclosure, again when i'm h=back from my trip.

Have you checked the disc using chkdsk?
No, but as the ssd works with the laptop I didn't see a need to.

Again, many thanks for the input and help - it's much appreciated!
