Download Tweak UI for winxp

When run, in Tweak UI goto >My Computer> Drives

This should display all drives connected to the pc.
Make sure the check box is ticked next to the drive in question,
It should now appear in the My Computer screen with your other drives.

The red question marks are drives that aren't connected.

Hopefully this will help you.

Thanks Matt, i have run that and it doesnt show when its running on usb2, its marked as K drive though when i uninstall and reinstall the enhanced controllers, il just have to find a way to keep it in usb 1 mode and not reload drivers on a reboot.

That sounds like it not using the correct driver, is there a manufacturer whos site you can get the drivers for this USB card?

If I recall the few of these I have used you have to do a preinstall, ie you install the driver then plug in the device.

That probably stop Windoze using its pants default one. Sounds like a plan Warspite!

Hi, thanks again, i installed the drivers prior to the installation of the device, and retried a couple of times. I think the way it is will have to do, all i need to do is uninstall drivers, eject card and put in again, and hard drive shows, not correct i know lol but at least i have access to it.

Thanks so much for help guys, its been tremendous.

USB2 support in XP is shocking. I don't know who is to blame but it really seems to be a case of it just works or it doesn't and there is nothing you can do about it.

yeah definetly, is there ANY way that windows xp can be told to stop reinstalling new drivers for things on bootup, if i can get it to stop reinstalling the duff drivers then everything will be fine to a point.

True - its amazing you need Service Pack 1 for USB 2.0, considering USB 2.0 was introduced just before XPs release.

Sorry couldnt be of any help Barrymoir - if I get any ideas I'll be back;)

If it asks for a driver you can usuall tell it not to check now or in the future for drivers, but its a bit tricky with things that like USB because it tends to just go ahead and automatically install without any prompt as its "supposed" to be such a generic interface.

An idea might be to disable your onboard USB 1.1 ports and see if that allows your USB 2.0 adapter to work, maybe thats what there conflicting with.

youve both been great help, before yesterday i couldnt even see the thing lol, now at least i have access to it and with card reader in onboard usb, i can transfer files, just need to find a way to tell xp to bootup withouth reinstalling stuff, i dont even care if it means deletingn dll's lol
