I am looking for an external display(s) for my MBP, early 2011 15 inch. I only have 1x thunderbolt port.

Now regarding the displays themselves, I am looking at the following 2

Dell U2715h
Dell U2515h

If there are any other screens with similar specs that you would suggest looking at please let me know.

I have been doing a little reading regarding daisy chaining of displays and wondering if its possible to run say 2 screens from the single thunderbolt port on the mbp, I understand you need display port version 1.2, and or MST (multi stream transport enabled)

Can anyone help/advise/tell me if you have anything like this running. I only really need one display but interested potentially if two can be run. I realise once I get a newer MBP i will have 2x thunderbolt instead of my current 1.

Thanks in advance for all help

I use a u2715h with mine. I really recommend it. But I connect mine via Hdmi ports

Thanks Hugh, I don't have a hdmi port on my mbp, but out of interest are you getting the full resolution of the monitor from the hdmi port? As in the full 2560x1440

I am, mid 2014 mbp

Unfortunately you can't run two displays from one port, unless you are daisy chaining Thunderbolt enabled displays, and the Dells are mDP, DP and HDMI only.

I run 2x Dell U2515h monitors presently, as I just downgraded from the U2713H, and a second U2412. I can certainly say they are excellent displays, and I much prefer the pixel density of 2560x1440 on the 25" over the 27". I don't think there is anything in the price range of the U2515h that is anywhere near as good, although I am happy to be corrected.

You could always buy one, and get a second at a later day, I am sure they'll be available for a long while yet. :)

I have 4 of the U2515h now 2 for my home set up and 2 for the studio.

Love these, for what is a fairly budget price for a photo editing monitor they are excellent.

I haven't done it myself, but I understood that the Thunderbolt port is DP compatible, as such I thought you could daisychain through it.

I am using a AOC Q2770Pqu 27 inch on my MBP. Very nice to have the extra resolution and a good monitor for the price.

Forgive me, I may have been wrong. It must be a DP 1.2 compatible output to allow daisy chain, and obviously DP does not carry power at all. Is the Mac Book 2011 DP 1.2 compliant via the TB port?

Hmmm......good question I will check.
