Just bought a new Transcend 5 in 1 card reader as my last reader bit the dust,a great buy.
Just wondering what most people do when reader is not in use do you unplug it from the usb port or just leave it on all the time your p.c. is on.:)
 
I unplug it.

Mine fills explorer with drive letters for all the slots and if a card is left in it the PC tries to boot from it and fails making me think for a moment that it's broken. So it get unplugged.
 
I leave mine on all the time, as for trying to boot from it, just adjust the BIOS so it doesn't.
 
I suppose the chip could wear out quicker being left on all the time but not sure.:)
 
Mine used to stay plugged in but my new machine has a panel of built in slots so I only use the external one on laptops/netbooks so it gets unplugged when not in use.
 
Ah well on & off at times will probably be the way then.:):thumbs:
 
i leave the two of mine in my camera bag i have the cheap £1 usb ones from pound world lol
 
I've done both, leaving the reader plugged in all the time, and detaching it, at various times. I can't say that I've noticed it making any difference.
 
Unplugged and put in a draw........ I don't like clutter !
 
Well just have to play it by ear i think.:thumbs:
 
Just remembered that when mine was plugged in fairly permanently, I had it stuck under a shelf with Velcro so it was handy but out of the way and not using any desk real estate.

I've just ordered a new USB 3 card reader and was thinking of doing some thing similar :)
