Yes
I am currently using a Canon 40D with a Sigma 105 f/2.8.
Can I use extension tubes to get even closer and more detailed images?
If yes any recommendations to types etc.
Will I lose the auto focus? I know I shouldn't be really using AF for Macro but In still to master MF.

Yeah you can get closer with tubes on a macro lens.

I have both the cheap manual tubes and the Kenko Auto tubes. You really want to consider auto tubes that allows aperture control (and will retain auto focus.)

You will lose more light using the tubes and the DoF is reduced further. I find them quite difficult to handhold in ambient light, so typically only use them with the tripod - that could just be my bad technique of course:razz:.

I am considering buying some form of macro flash in the future too.

Will work fine, but yes you will lose autofocus because the f/number will rise. F/2.8 is already an effective f/5.6 at 1:1. Not that you need or want AF with macro.

Kenko are good, but check if you want to use them with EF-S lenses (which your Sigma 105 is not) because the non EF-S versions will foul the rear of the lens.
