can anybody tell me what would give me better macro shots on a budget, extension tubes or something like a raynox additional lens ? thanks for any help.

i got some cheap tubes from amazon, great fun for learning with and they come in sets of 3 so u can chop and change,if u can id get some proper tubes as mine only work on manual which is ok but getting enough light in can be hard.

Depends what you want to do - subject, how close etc.

But for less than £40, shooting bugs and butterflies etc, the Raynox DCR-250 or 150 are impossible to beat for ease of use and value. Quite versatile on a 50-200 zoom.

But you'll generally get better quality with tubes, such as a set of Kenkos for £120.

ok thanks guys, think i will go with the raynox, as im going on holiday in four wks and want it for then. so the cheaper option will have to do for now.cheers dan.

Which you choose will depend on your lens line up. Tubes don't work well with telezooms while close up attachments don't work so well with wide angle lenses. I have a Canon 500D +2 diopter acromat that works a treat with my 70-210mm zoom and is pretty sharp. It has a nice working distance of about 12-18". The Raynox DCR250 is pretty sharp also but it's quite powerful and you'll have to get quite a bit closer to your subject to get it in focus.
