Ok quicky....

I am extending a fence and need to plant 5 fence posts.

How much cement, sand and gravel will I need ???

Just putting the order together for the fence bits and the last bits of my studio :)

£20 for five bags: http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wc...logId=1500000701&langId=-1&searchTerms=747697

For a strong mix, 1 part cement to 3 of ready mixed aggregate (1 part stone to 2 parts sand). 20Kg per post works out nicely with 25Kg per part.

I forgot to mention that they are going against an existing kerb stone along one side. So I need about 20Kg for EACH post and is that in total? What weight of each thing? (I am getting everything from a large builders merchant locally which normally wipes the floor with everyone else on price and delivery is free because of the amount of stuff I am ordering)

Yup, 20Kg per post is what you should use, so 25Kg cement to 75Kg mixed aggregate = 100Kg total

alternatively, you can use fast set, goes off in about 15 min ,prity sure your builders merchant would stock it,you buy by the bag .Dig the post hole (keeping hole as neat as possible )bung in post ,lob in the cement fast mix, add the appropriate ammount of water ,hae presto jobs a *** un :D

Arrr the point and shoot version!

The hole you dig needs to be cylindirical NOT conical for economic use of concrete.
1;3;6 mix of concrete would be OK but 1;2;4 (cement;sand;aggregate) would be better.

Postfix - pour it in dry straight out of the bag then add water. 2 bags per post gives an extremely strong fixing. One bag is plenty for short posts.
No mixing nothing else to add except water.

Don't forget to put it in a little drier than normal as the ground will be wet!

Well i'm going out now to order the stuff for my garage. The posts will be running down the side of the house, against a kerb and through holes cut in concrete slabs using a grinder so will mark the slabs lift the relevant ones cut them and then dig a hole underneath. Then Stick the post into the concrete and put the slab back which should give it strength and hold it whilst the concrete sets. I am ordering the stuff for 18 feet of fence and the studio but will need to do the studio first. Hopefully get the fence done on Thursday and into Friday and then get a chance to do some of the studio. I'm really looking forwards to getting the studio done and getting in their to practice.
