extenders (tubes) question

Think they should mostly work OK. In some cases there may be issues with the auto facilities and you may need to work in manual.
Only problem that comes to mind is that if you need to work in manual and the lens does not have an aperture ring then that will put the kibosh on it.

Someone familiar with Canon lenses may give you a more specific answer.

They will work fine, if you get a set that fits.

Canon ones fit (pricey) but be careful with the Kenko tubes which are very popular and good (full auto) - you need EF-S compatible ones. Problem with most of them around is the internal baffle is slightly too big and fouls the back of the lens.

A popular alternative is a Raynox DCR-250 macro close-up supplementary lens, depending on what you want to do. Works great with your 55-250. £40 off Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raynox-RADCR-0250-DCR-250/dp/B000A1SZ2Y

PS 'Extender' is Canon parlance for a teleconverter, not the same thing as Extension Tubes ;)

Thanks for the advice guys, I am conteplating getting the Raynox 250 as I prefer the idea of putting it on the front and not having to take the lens off to fit the entension tubes.

Do you have any personal experience with the raynox?

thanks

I am going to watch this as I fancy a raynox myself. I have a Nikon 105mm f2.8 macro lens which is superb but having used a dioptra filter on it I like the idea of going even closer.

That is another option should you want to just have a play, dioptra filters (they are just lenses that screw onto the filter thread) are quite good and very cheap without the loss of light problem you get with tubes. The raynox setup is just a much better version of the same.

There is a lot of discussion about the Raynox if you run a search. And 12,000 images to check out on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/raynoxdcr250/

I've got a Raynox that I never use now - it's for sale if you're interested :)

How much are you looking for it Richard if it is still forsale?

I do have a diopter filteralready but would also love to go much closer :)

I never use it Adam, so I might as well move it on. I'll drop you a PM.

Cheers.

EHEM....we have a section for this chaps, that EXCLUDES dealing by PM! :nono:

Hoppy, suggest you start a post in classifieds for openess.

Sorry Yv, it was just an aside comment over a week ago that I might sell. Not intended as a sales pitch as such.

To the OP I have not had an issue with any of my lenses with the kenko extension tubes.

Sorry Bob. If I'd known you wanted it... :D

I've been suitable chastised by Yv though, and quite rightly too - we don't want the general forums full of folks punting stuff when there's a very good For Sale section for the purpose

It won't happen again M'Lady :notworthy:
