Evening all, i decided to go and buy the 40d, its soooo much better than my 400d. The only problem is i didn't come with a manual, i have sussed most things with it so far, and loving it. But i'm stuck with trying to get exposure lock on.

Can anyone help with this?

Should be the * button, but check the menu as that may have been swapped with the AF-ON button or alternatively see if the AF-ON button locks the exposure

Did that on mine as it fell to my thumb more comfortably

Perfect, thanks. It was changed on mine, that's why it wasn't working.

Thanks again.

Might be worth checking the other functions to make sure they haven't been altered - I'd probably do a reset all functions, to remove any previous settings made...

Glad that sorted it for you Ian and good advice from Andy, might have other anomalies that won't suit you.

When I sold one of my 40D's forgot to reset it back to factory defaults, had it set up for back button focus. Poor old buyer thought it was broken when no AF on the shutter button.

Thanks everyone. That's what I did in the end, (reset it). There's so many more options on this camera. I'm sure it will keep me occupied for a while.
