Hi guys,

I'm using a Yongnuo 600 speedlight and was wondering if shooting a subject in front of a window will the flash and camera expose both correctly if I shoot at higher shutter speeds?

I think I'm talking about high speed sync here and was under the impression that the flash switched to that automatically from ettl but having a wee practice just now it certainly isn't happening. The subject is fine and the windows horribly blown.

Any suggestions to remedy this?

The camera and flash won't be able to guess the balance that you want.

So you'll have to have some input to that decision making process.

Amy reason why you want a high shutter speed?

Won't higher shutter speeds just darken the background? I thought shutter speed controlled the ambient light and aperture controlled the flash exposure?

Yes it would 'darken' the BG, but it would need some darkening to stop it blowing completely, it's tricky balancing with a bright sunlit window.
