i have noticed that if you save an image by clicking Export As vs Save As the file size is considerably bigger when using the Export method. Can anyone please explain why this is the case. Thanks in advance.

Using what software? Using which file format?

If both are JPEGs with the same image size, it must be either the amount of compression or the extent of the metadata.

Hi John
Both saves as JPEG, using photoshop cc 2017.

What quality settings are you saving and exporting as?

Export gives you 0-100, save gives you 0-12. So you'd have to work out how they compare to each other, eg at what point they use what level of subsampling, or compression, etc.

Exporting around 80 and saving at 10 gives me pretty much the same filesize which seems to make sense.

Don't know if this is still relevant in current PS: http://petapixel.com/2011/08/26/a-h...-in-photoshop-sometimes-reduces-jpeg-quality/

Thanks for the reply the deeper I get into this the more confusing it seems to be getting . Have clicked on the link it sort of makes sense I will have a play next time I save some images.

Do you use save as or export as?
Does it in the grand scheme of things make a difference?

It must be the options you select in each case. Does it matter, probably not if the size is what you require. Personally I output from LR using export.
