Does anyone have any experience of using the ExpoAperture2 Depth-of-Field Guide (http://www.expoimaging.com).

It has great reviews from the company but I've haven't come across anyone who's brought/ used one. At £25 - 30.00 + it's a bit much to buy just on spec..

What kind of phone do you have?

iPhones, Windows phones and Android all have apps which will do this for you.

Actually - just spotted this which being Java will run on most phones.

I've got the earlier version, which works on the same principle. It's very good, and works differently to conventional depth of field scales. They claim it's easier to grasp the concept of DoF that way and I can see that.

But I don't actually use it! I guess I've been around long enough to have a pretty good feel for the DoF I want and what is possible without much help. It also doesn't extend to the kind of extreme situations where I'd like a bit of help. Like how much DoF you get with a 400mm lens at 2m for garden birds, or for macro, or for super-wide landscapes when you also want those flowers only a couple of feet away to be sharp. Ultimately, you can always just take a snap and with a decent quality LCD scroll around the image and see what you've got.

And of course there are other (free) calculators about. I like the idea of the phone apps. There are also some good tables you can print out at www.dofmaster.com and excellent rotatary DoF scales, just like the ones we used to get on engraved on lenses, but actually much more extensive and customisable to your exact requirements.
 
Ive got one, it was a booze fuelled impulse buy from ebay. I woke up in the morning and thought why? i have them on my iphone.

It is actually quite a good tool though and gets you thinking about dof etc.

I may put it up for sale in a couple of weeks, not decided yet.
