Yes
I bought a new Sigma 24-70 2.8 lens this week and got a UV and a polarising filter to go with it. I purchased Hoya filters, the polariser being a 'blue' label. Installed the polariser and the outer circlip popped out!!
So i pushed it back in and removed the filter....only the threaded section stayed in the lens:suspect: The inner circlip had popped out:bang:

So i've popped it all back together and emailed the place i got the kit from asking for an exchange.:bat:

Their reply?? 'The filter does that as it has a design problem, that's why we include a note on how to put them back together' :suspect:

(There wasn't a note included with the delivery by the way)

So is this common practice or am i being fobbed off:shrug:

Sale of Goods Act - "Fit for purpose intended......" ---- send it back for a refund!

(Unless you were warned prior to purchasing it)

Send it back!

You're being fobbed off....

I bought a Canon 180L lens with a Hoya filter from a well known UK seller the filter was delivered in a sealed box with the clip out of place, which was duly sent back for replacement, they returned the filter with the clip put back in place and laughed it off :shake: I won't use that seller again and I certainly won't buy another Hoya filter

Yup, I've had exactly the same problem. The glass popped out all over the concrete :(

Cheers guys. Had a feeling it was a fob off. There's no note in package or on website about the problem. I'll mail them back and let you know how it goes:bat:

If you don't get satisfaction, name and shame!

Yep, send it back.

I had a filter do this to me a few years ago that I bought from Jess*ps, they just replaced it. (only a UV I seem to remember)

Strangely enough, the new Hoya HMC UV filter I bought for my Sigma 24-70 turned up with the circlip partialy out . I popped it back in & it seems to be ok so far

You wouldn't expect that from a manufacturer like Hoya.

I spent a fair bit of cash on Hoya Pro1 Digital series UV filters for my new Canon lenses, to protect the front elements. No problems with the glass popping out... is this something that only affects part of their lineup, or a bad batch?

Still pretty poor... Hoya are one of the biggest, if not the biggest name in filters :nono:

UPDATE - I've been thinking about getting a Hoya polariser for my wide-angle zoom... just checked some prices... £130!! (OK, that's their top-of-the-range filter in the largest size)

Don't know how much you paid for yours, but I'd still expect something that does what it says on the box without breaking. Send it back :nono:

A.

There are a LOT of fake Hoya filters about, especially on Chinese eBay auctions.

The bigger the filter the more chance of the circlip popping out. Trying to make a spring steel band of 'zero' width, 82 mm in diameter is probable difficult :)

Then at those prices they should engineer a different approach. :naughty:

Profiteers and cheapskates!

I've emailed them again, yet more fobbing. They are prepared to have one of their engineers to reassemble the filter and return it to me.
Its a onlycirclip.....i'm not that stupid and i can't imagine they will reassemble it any better, its more the principal
Its not a defect apparently....

Tell them to get stuffed and you want your money back, including the postage that you'll have to pay to return the item.

If they don't play ball, I'd send them a Letter Before Action and threaten with court action.

Severe, yes, but if they're just going to mess about and fob you off, then it's nothing more than they deserve really

Name and shame time !

My hoya has been fine for months, then at the lakes clip popped out and glass tried to take a swim, saved it and a bit miffed, until I saw this thread..... nice, money well spent.

I'm inclined to just leave it, they don;t seem forthcoming in helping other than to repair it. :bang: I'll just not bother going to them again.
In terms of naming and shaming, its never been my thing, but given how disappointed i am, i'm torn with informing you guys about this. I'll have a think:thinking:
