Expired film "day" is rushing up at us this year, https://expiredfilmday.com/efd-2020-rules-and-prizes/. Once again, it's 3 days, March 13-15 2020. What with the Photography Show getting cancelled, plenty of opprtunity to grab an expired roll and get out there. You could even take a few on the "alt-show" event @stevelmx5 & co are organising!

Tbh imo, unless a film is considerably OOD ( for arguments sake let's say at least a decade although even that isn't old if correctly stored), then I don't see that the ability to obtain
a decent ( or crap for that matter) photograph from it is a great achievement.

Needless to say that I won't be involving myself in the competition.

I agree.... there seems to be no criteria for how out of date the film is. I have film that is 40 years out of date...but somebody might have film that's only a year out of date, and to me that's not exactly going to be difficult to shoot.

Well, it's not really a competition, more a sort of film community event. Take part or not, your choice.

I quite enjoyed the Shoot Week in FP4Party; there's a feeling of taking part in a community event while still being on my own!

Shots that look like they were taken on perfectly good film don’t tend to fare as well though. I think @dmb got recognition last year for his photos on some 1950s film that showed obvious signs of deterioration.

That's good to hear...

I got some 24+3 rolls of Agfacolor 100, expired in 2004, in my Secret Santa, so I've been using them this weekend. Mostly rated at 25 or 50 with a ND8 filter to try a few more ICM shots, but the last half roll I took the filter off and took some buds and flowers...

I shot on Sunday March 15th the annual Brentwood Half marathon on Expired Kodak 400 C41 film and processed it same day -- I cannot understand WHERE to submit my 3 snaps -- you mentioned a 'gallery' -- I searched Gallery and Competitions section but NO MENTION of the Expired Film day -- Please advise.

Hi Pete,

The submission page is here (although I can't see the form there yet - maybe it'll go live later).

The gallery page is here (although nothing to see there yet).

You can look at previous years' entries until the form and gallery for 2020 are active though.

I had a look but there is no 'Upload Thing' where you can submit your 3 photos -- i can get mine off Flickr and downsize to 1600 Pixels

Well, my roll of Feb 1989 expiry Kodcolor Gold 200 worked quite well. It clearly shows signs of its age, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with the results. The following three are the ones I'll enter (assuming the entry form is ever activated!), although I'll need to add a disclaimer that they were shot on the 16th, which was a day late for the official shooting period.

I really do like those, Nige, they've a weird pointilliste (??) vibe to them!

Thanks Chris. I'm really pleased with how they've turned out. I shot them 3 stops over (so at 25asa) and the exposure is pretty much on the mark. Despite the issues caused by the age of the film, it does make me wish that there were still consumer-grade options for 120 colour film. The Lomography stuff is probably the only stuff that fits the bill.

And he's a winner! The first of these pics won one of the categories, well done Fishy Nige!

Ah, that's why they picked it... ;)
