Expert Advise Please

HI i am new to talk photography and new to digital photography, i have always had an interest in photography,but i am from the old school of 35mm. I have always had a passion for black & white images where i developed all my own films and prints as you do. But i need help i have just brought a Nikon d40 & 18 - 55 lens, it has not been out the house yet,anyway please could some tell me how they insert parts of colour into there b&w digital prints ive seen many prints like this and it looks great .Iam also interested in photo events if any fellow photographers would like to post me some events that would be great thanks again pjm.:bonk:

Welcome to the forum..there is a section on meets etc at the lower end of the forum...with regards to the black and white pics with colour do you mean selective colouring like this?

When adding colour back into a B&W image I normally do the following in photoshop:
1) copy the layer and do the B&W conversion using channel mixer.
2) add a layer mask to the B&W conversion layer and paint back the parts you want in colour using the brush tool.
