Ok, so first of all, dont hate me, this is a post about Camera bags. Yes, again. Basically im into my remote location photography, therefor im after an expedition style bag. My ideal bag is the Fstop Tilopa with a Large ICU, but they are seriously expensive! I want something that can take a 15" MBP, a decent size storage area, enough for a couple of jackets, food, assorted gear like torches and first aid kit, just general stuff needed for heading out to the middle of nowhere. Gear wise, it needs to hold;
A gripped 7D
Canon 24-105mm L
Canon 100-400mm L
Canon 10-20mm
2 x 430EX ii
3 remote triggers
Standard filters, cards, spare batteries.
Manfrotto MT190XPRO3 tripod

Plus a little room for more expansion.

Obviously i need it to be comfy for long walks and have a waterproof cover. I can find plenty that fit the bill that dont have the additional storage area which is essential for me. Finally, i need it to be international carry on luggage compliant too! Any recommendations that fit the bill?

Im going to America in Spetember so will probably end up picking up a Tilopa from there, but i would like to have something beforehand if theres a bag as suitable for my needs as the Tilopa is, just a little cheaper.

Thanks
Rich

Something like a Kata 207 perhaps? They were £300 when fresh out, but you can pick one up for less. They go for around £100 secondhand. I have a brand new one for sale actually, but it is on commission at the moment in a local camera shop - I was very impressed with the size of it, but decided on a Kata briefcase style one in the end as it suits weddings better.

Very interesting that you mention that. I was just looking at the Manfrotto bags, and noticed they are all very similar to Kata's bags. Whilst im a huge fan of them, i dont think they are geeared towards the outdoors/hiking side enough, the additional storage space doesnt seem to be enough. Im not sure what your thoughts are on this?

Oh, to add, its the 3N1-35 PL that i was interested it. Whilst ita a good looking bag, i dont think it would cut it for an overnight trip

Rich, this "international carry on bit" you need to be sure of and especially if you are taking small internal flights
All good bags are quite heavy empty

The Lowepro Pro Trekker and Pro Runner AW series are well made and good value for money especially if you can pick one up used - they have a waterproof cover, good shoulder straps and will take a tripod and a laptop as well as lots of gear …… but the more you put in it the heavier it becomes!!

Thats very interesting. I currently use a lowepro bag and love it, but the only ones that seemed feesable for me were the rover range, but the 35 diddnt have enough camera storage space, and the 45 was too big. I wasnt aware either bag you mentioned had much additional storage space. My local camera shop is a lowepro agent so i think i'll take a trip down.

Thanks for the advice
Rich
