Hi guys,

I've got a 50d and the standard 17-85mm kit lens on it, i'm looking to expand the range of lenses that i own over the next few months, i have quite a broad range of interests and like to shoot a variety of stuff such as sports (my current lack of a long lens is holding me back here) as well as some macro work and then a bit of landscape.

my Flikr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leoherbertphotography/

I'm going to have about £800-1000 to spend as long as i can sell a few bits but that is absolute max!

i think my list of priorities go

1, Telephoto (sigma 70-300mm apo, canon 55-250mm or canon 70-200mm f4) the f4 is a lot more expensive and make it harder to get the other is there anything else to look at?

2, Macro (sigma 105 macro) what else would you recommend or just buy some extension tubes?

3, Faster kit (tamron 17-50mm 2.8?) should i go vc or non vc?

Just looking for some suggestions on what to invest in next and some things to look at that maybe havn't looked at especially with the tele.

cheers

Yea i was thinking maybe either the canon 35mm or 28mm as i feel 50mm is too long for the things i shoot. I think that would have to come after the tele and the macro as they are currently stopping taking pics that i want. but would you recommend that first?

cheers

I hope you are looking at the preowned market as you will get more lens for your money.

I have seen 70-200 f/4 L go for between 300 and 400 quid on here. I have had a quick look through the classifieds and can't see any at the moment.

Although i have seen this http://www.lcegroup.co.uk/Used/Canon-EF-70-200mm-f4-L-USM_43059.html

I'm not in to macro so can not comment on what lens you may need.

If sport and macro are you primary goals then the short end of your kit lens should be good enough to get some landscape stuff. But you can get hold of a Sigma 10-20mm for between 300 and 400 quid also.

Good luck with the search!

These are personal suggestions:

sigma 30mm f1.4 or canon equivalent (35mm?28mm?)

macro:
set of tubes (manual or kenko?)
105mm 1:1 ratio canon
mpe-65 - if flush?
150mm sigma (better working distance)

Landscape - yeah you can use the other lenses but I'm going to suggest a tokina 11-16mm (less distortion) or a 10-20mm sigma (think it was the f3.5 older version was more sharper)

for £1000 you could have all those lens as long as you looked at used.
Like said a 70-200 for £3-400, you could get the canon 100mm macro lens f2.8 for around £300 and a tamron 17-50 f2.8 non vc(beleived to be sharper).

Like said you are looking to upgrade over the next couple of months so do your time here, post pics up look at info and after 60 days you can access the classifieds and get some good gear at a good price.

I have bought off ebay before but i feel better with myself buying off people off here.

hope this helps
