On my flickr account, why is there so much Exif data shown for the pics that I take and upload?

Most of it seems to be completely unneccesary and shows stuff like the serial number and other camera settings. Is there anyway of turning it off and just showing the basics? I have a D40

Flickr - account settings - Privacy & Permissions - Hide your EXIF Data - YES

Hope that helps

Cheers Liam - I'm not too worried about it being shown, there is just a lot of it compared to pics from other uploaders.

Think if it is in the image then flickr will show it... so it would be better to look at where the images are coming from, if you are exporting them from software, e.g. lightroom can you adjust what exif data is attached.

Not sure if you can but I think that's where you need to be looking rather than flickr

Right - the massive big list of exif data comes from having the CSM/setup menu on my D40 set to full rather than simple. Changing back to simple does make the list of stuff shown smaller, but it also changes the resolution to 72dpi (in full mode it shows 300dpi).

Is this referring directly to the resolution of the image or is it something else? 72dpi is alright for looking at pictures on a screen, but presumably if there is anything I want to print, it should be 300dpi? No? Yes?! No idea!

not being a Nikon user I can't say what it's referring to, however if it is the image this wants changing.. you want more than 72 for printing that's for certain.

EDIT: try taking an image then opening in something like photo shop and it will tell you the dpi of the image

Yeah changing to a simple menu setup definitely changes the resolution to 72dpi. If I want 300dpi I have to have loads and loads and loads of info in the exif list.

Whats wrong with having exif data, I find it useful
