I have been using Gimp as my photo editor for years, long before I changed over to Ubuntu. For Some reason everthing that I process in Gimp is now coming out without any Exif Data where as the unprocessed files still have the data. I am shooting in Jpeg fine and have asked around and so far no answers. Gimp hasn't answered my queries, and Ubuntu troubleshooters tell me to go to Gimp...

I am hoping here that there might just be a Gimp / Linux user that might have some idea of what I am dealing with and a solution for the problem. At first I thought that it might have been my photo holding site that was doing it but after looking at a photo I had saved on my hard drive immediately after processing and having no data convinced me that it wasn't the site doing the stripping it was me...

Now I don't use gimp but I'm wondering if theres a setting somewhere? many softwares will strip exif if you use the save for web/email type option as a means of reducing file size.

Lightroom has the option to remove exif in the export palette, it may be ticked by default if you resize.

I'm having the same issues when saving from CS5! Lightroom keeps all EXIF, but then when I have to take it into CS5, then save as JPEG, it wipes the EXIF too....

Sorry for the hijack, but maybe the same answer will work for both of us!

Don't use 'Save for Web', use 'Save As'.

In the Export panel, look for the dropdown section that says Metadata. If it's set to Minimize your Exif will be stripped.

Cheers Mark - Seems as though they are still there in Flikr, the links seem to have vanished from threads here on TP

Heres the lightroom box.

What processing are you doing? If it's using rectangle/circle select and copy+paste to crop or after rotating etc, the EXIF will be stripped. Use 'Image>crop to selection'.

If not, check your 'Save as' settings:

Note the 'Advanced' section.

Make sure (obviously) the Save EXIF data is checked, then if you use the 'Save Defaults' button, the settings will be saved for next time.
