Exif Data artist or unknown ?

Maybe a daft question but if I don't ask it'll bug me for ages.

Do many folk here bother putting their name into the camera settings so that it shows up in the exif data. I understand perhaps if someone is selling photos as part of their business, but is it really neccessary for the likes of a crappy amateur like me since the Exif can be wiped clean in a gfx program.

What benefits are there leaving your name in.

I have put mine name into the camera (30D) if it's stolen by a right numpty they would not know it was there or how to delete it, so should be easier to recover. Yes some with a little brain could do it but what harm can it do being in there.

As for it being in the EXIF data, I think that's a good thing too. It's just one more way of trying to protect your images.

My name (well rather my dad's name) is in my camera too, thats why all my images were "actually" taken by my dad not me...

Can't speak for other cameras cos I've not used them but I think the 20D and 30D are similar, on the 40D connect camera to the computer via usb cable making sure camera is switched off first. Switch on camera once detected then open the EOS utllity you probably got with the camera. Click on Camera Settings/Remote Window. You get a new screen showing you some current settings on the camera. Click on the tools icon (middle one) and in the owners name dialogue box enter your name or whatever.
Quit your way out and thats it.
