This is prolly a simple and very easy question, but I have searched google and can't find the answer I am looking for

What I want to do is set a owner and copyright on a file.

So when you right click > properties and look at the summary tab I can set my name and website in the copyright and owner feild.

Also can it be done on a batch. And if so what application do I use?

cheers

If you use Lightroom you can set it to add whatever metadata you want on import.

I think but i have never tried it, if you connect the camera to the PC with the canon softwere you can set it in camera but thats all i know. I use lightroom.

Yup - Lightroom for me as well

another avid lightroom user here, but i'd be interested to know of another tool for updating large batches of files.

surely there must be a opensource/freeware lightweight app to do this...or perhaps someone could write one....

no point re-inventing the wheel, so shout out if you know of one

If you have Vista (maybe XP too) you can....

- highlight the files you are interested in within Windows File Explorer;
- press ALT-ENTER to open the properties for the files;
- Go to the DETAILS tab;
- Type in whatever data you like for the Copyright or anything else available;
- Press OK.

See dialog box....

windows users -
was just doing a quick search and stumbled upon this:
http://www.microsoft.com/prophoto/downloads/tools.aspx

I've just downloaded it and had a play. For an MS freebie it's not too bad. With the GPS and the map feature I assumed you would be able to zoom in to the location on the map and add the location data to the metadata, but in the 5 or so minutes I was playing I could not find a way to do that - disappointing.

I was also disappointed that there isn't an option to open all images in a folder, plus subfolders etc. Instaed you have to select the imahes you want to open. Obviously you can shift/ctrl select multiple images but that doesn't includr subfolders. Being someone who always organises my photos by location ie: UK\London\Docklands\Date or UK\London\Trafalgar Sq\Date this is a big minus for me.

But all said and done, for a freebie it is a useful prog to have. But for me - I will stick with Lightroom.

Connect your camera directly to the computer as ruth said, and you can then set the owner. I can't remember exactly without looking, but I've done it on my 400D. You could in thoery, i guess, write a whole paragraph including © info etc. If you want to know how and cant figure out, let me know and i'll look tonite.

Can't you do this in-camera?

I set up my camera to embedded this for me.

cool cheers guys

I am running Vista at home, so I will try the Batch edit in windows.

I have lightroom on my mac and laptop, but I am sure the last time I edited a photo the exif data never saved. Might have dun it wrong

Will retry

Thank you

Mike

Some cameras will embed it into the image in the camera - the Nikon D3 will do for instance, and you canbatch load further info, captions etc in Capture NX.
