I volunteered to take photos at a conference where my employer is exhibiting tomorrow. Most likely they will be in a relatively well lit hall (no ambient) of people visiting our stand etc.

I've got the 6D and 24-105 with a EX600-RT ready to go, but I just wondered if anyone had any advice. Either on equipment or settings, or even on creative ideas.

I'm quite keen to "document" the show if at all possible, but that depends on access with my camera.

Thanks!

Kit-wise, 24-105 and flash sound good. I'd shoot f/4-ish to minimise background clutter, and get people smiling. Ask your boss if there are any particular shots wanted - valued clients and so forth. Make a note of the names if you may not remember them, for later captioning. Try to vary the shots in terms of angles and focal length - avoid being too repetitive with your composition, try to get the company name in shot if possible.

Oh, and remember to charge your batteries, and take spare cards. :p

I'm going to take along my 135 f2 as well. I'm not going to have too much time to shoot (I am working after all) but I think the 135 will be good for candids without getting too intrusive.

I'm really keen to find the "details" and document the event as I really like that style.

Have fun. Missed one point - if you have a rival stand close by, don't get them in shot!

We do. I work for the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi and we're next to the French!

Might offer a friendly shot and blind them all with my EX600

Better be careful who you snap with a glass in their hand, then! Friend of mine is with the EU Commission. She has some amazing tales from working in that world.

Wow! What a challenge that was! I only managed to take 20/30 but iI'd be surprised if any were keepers. Using flash for the first time had my head in a spin with regards to setting aperture, iso and shutter speed. Also found getting the right focal length a real problem.

Not looking forward to getting these on a bigger display :'(

Its a bit late now but white balance is often critical in exhibition halls with sodium lights etc, SOOC unless corrected everything can look a sickly orange.

Thanks Mark. I've just taken a look and you're absolutely right, everyone is glowing! I shot in Raw so should be able to pull something back.

Really enjoyed it, but was completely stuck for creative ideas. Plus, I was trying not to look like an official tog as it could have damaged my credibility when I took to the stage
