Is there an adapter for a Topcon 58mm (5.8CM) F/1.4 to fit my D700. I can find lots of adapters to Z mount and other cameras, but none for my Nikon F. Probably made a mistake somewhere along the line.

Have you found this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flange_focal_distance ?

As an example: it shows the Exakta flange to focal plane distance as 44.7 mm and that of the Nikon as 46.50 mm. This means that the Exakta lenses cannot focus to infinity on Nikon bodies unless you use an adapter with a correction lens. There are very few lenses with fixed mounts that can be adapted to the Nikon mount without difficulty.

Tamron and Soligor made lenses with interchangeable mounts. These can be fitted to most cameras with a "classical" mount (such as the Nikon) by using the standard adapters. More on the Tamron Adaptall range here: http://www.adaptall-2.com/ These are the lenses I use with my Nikon dSLR.

Generally speaking: the Sony A7 is the easiest full frame digital camera to use with old lenses as it has a lens to flange distance of only 18 mm and there are many inexpensive adapters available.

Yep, I bought an M42 adapter from Cameraworld and it works like a dream with the £20 Yashinon 50mm I bought recently. Just can't work out which adapter to get, it doesn't seem to be listed. There are ones for the Z6, no problem.

The Nikon F mount is so far down the list that Andrew posted that no common third party 35mm lens with a fixed mount can be used on the D700 without an additional lens element in the adapter for infinity focus, which makes adapters more complicated and expensive (and can lower quality). I guess your M42 adapter must have this unless you are only using the Yashica lens for close-ups? Z mount cameras can just use a simple adapter. If you have a Z6, I would just use that for experimenting with classic lenses.

Yes, it does have an additional lens element. Don't have a Z6 and can't really afford one at the present time. Appreciate your help. @Retune
