Hi All,

Sorry if this seems a ridiculous question but I only bought my first speedlight today so go easy on me! :)

Basically I've read quite a few mixed reports on the ST-E3 and it's functionality in low light situations. The common complaint being that it does't have a focus assist light.

I was just wondering if I would be better off with two ex600rt's and using one as slave, the other as master, rather than bother with the ST-E3?

that way the one 600rt would have to be on the camera to work. the Yongnuo YN-622C trigger has focus assisst and have a new one planned for the end of the year.

Yeah, just seen that, the YN-E3-RT due out in October and fully compatible with the 600rt. Think I might buy a second 600rt and use one on the camera as master until this transmitter is released.

Flash photography...:gag:

I seriously think Canon dropped the ball when the omitted the Focus Assist on the ST-E3. They got it right in duplicating the buttons and layout on the ST-E3 as they are on the 600EX-RT.

For flexibility, the extra 600 would be usefull. Once you have two 600's though, an ST-E3 is also very useful.

Yup, I bought 2 600EX-RT, and then ordered a ST-E3....then I realised there is no focus assist on it, just a radio trigger so cancel the order and order another flash.

How are you finding that then? Two flashes off camera and one on camera as master?

There is an option to turn the flash off on the camera mounted 600 so it can be used as a trigger alone or to add further light as a on camera flash.
