I'm not sure you can on ADSL without Annex M, which is a cost option from many ISPs (and many ISPs simply don't offer it).

Anyway, if you have FTTC coming to your green box soon, all this will be moot.

Where I used to live, a smaller village a few miles up the road has been upgraded because they raised money to pay for it WTF
Apparently they use the same exchange but the wiring was only upgraded in their direction, although it seem openreach are now working
in the area so fingers crossed

I can't honestly say I have noticed that much difference since I upgraded to infinity, speed has apparently doubled on download but
can't really see much difference, upload is a tad faster.

Only thing that has bemused me is at the time I was quoted a saving of somewhere around £5, seems that was wrong, my bill has
gone down by close on £15 (y)
 
OpenReach has been playing in my street recently, we stay about 200 metres from the exchange.
When we signed up with Sky our broadband was rated at 12 mbps.
When i saw this thread I thought I'd recheck and it is hovering at about 21 mbps.
A decent increase for no extra cost.

But that's the point Nod, every time it gets "close" they shift it another couple of months.
And have been for a couple of years!
Its not as though I live in a small village in the middle of nowhere, but a town on the outer edge of Milton Keynes.

Yep, a mate used to live in MK until he saw the light!
He moved, eventually, to Balquhidder. He stays at the side of Loch Voil. (wet and full of fish)
Broadband is pretty bad up there too...

These places are OK when the weathers OK but I don't really living somewhere like that when it turns nasty.

Midges in summer and snow in winter, the rest of the time it rains.

The broadband up there, it's along a 1 mile dirt track at the side of the loch, is about 20mbps. So, pretty decent now.
12 miles to the nearest shops...
How can they get decent broadband compared with you?

The exchange, the one the Romans built, along with the A5 as they were passing through,is a couple of miles away,
the server cabinet is a few hundred yards away, surely it can't be that difficult to get fibre here?

The best I get at the moment is nudging 3Mbs (down) & 1.5 Mbs.(up)
As per the initial posts, it fluctuates wildly and can be anywhere as low as less than 1Mbs (down) & 0.5Mbs (up)
Its not as though its being throttled either, I can get ridiculously low figures in the early hours of the morning.
 
Well BT were supposed to be installing fibre in Jan, this year, 2 years after they said they would.
As above month on month its been put back.
And no surprises here again...

And to top that, I was in a supermarket oop norff, ( still living out of a suitcase)
And the guy by the entrance tried to sell me fiber BB, I'm not sure who it was now,
but I told him straight that it wasn't available in my area,
He asked where do you live, in the middle of nowhere?
MK I said, he thought he was taking the p***, outta him, I can check that if you like he said insistently,
It was worth giving him my post code, just for the smug way I said "I told you so" :D

Wonder how many woman agreed!!

Well several years after it was promised and after many dates being put back, I finally have a result (y)
Not quite as fast as we were promised, but I guess its faster than the BB I get now ..

Oh and it also seems that Tesco sold its internet interests to talk talk earlier this year ..

I hate it when I drive around my area and everywhere I go I see green boxes with the Superfast broadband is here stickers on. No such luck on my street, crappy sky and its abysmal connection success, constantly dropping out. Try being a Destiny player with such a poor connection, drives me crazy. Excellent speeds from EE though on my phone, regular get 45-50Mbit just wish it was cheaper, for say 50gig a month, and I'd drop the landline in a jot.

So now the problems start, mine did the same I found out when I had all the problems,
and it seems EE mobile has sold to BT, so I now have mobile, home phone and internet with
the same supplier, oh well if they are as good with the mobile as they are with the rest I have
no worries:D
 
Been with Orange as a mobile network for as long as I've had a mobile and with what is now EE since Freeserve times - no complaints with either service.

I wandered in to the EE store yesterday to sort out a new contract, for my phone and asked about a deal on Fibre
the helpful and very patient sales girl said sorry but its not in your area as yet.
I said its been there a week now accourding to BT's own web site.
Maybe EE just haven't caught up?

So anyway, still no fibre and now Talk Talk have taken over Tesco's BB interests,
After countless emails about a crap service, (in the past) to tesco, when the speeds where wildly fluctuating,
I did eventually get around the 3 & 1.5 Mbs although of course it was never their fault ;)
It was mine, it was Bt's etc etc ...

It thought that the service had been rather slow AGAIN recently, ,
